So recently I have started selling things on ebay to try to partly pay for my hobby, up until today everything had been fine if not a little more time consuming than I thought. But today while checking my selling activity i noticed a neutral feedback had been left. The persons comments were that I overcharged shipping by $10 on a combined purchase. My policy is stated on my auctions that combined shipping is highest plus half of all additional except individual loose figs and parts. This guy bought a lot with $4.50 shipping and three loose figs. I sent an invoice with 7.50 total shipping which he paid promptly and I shipped quickly. Then today the bad, untrue feedback. I sent a message to the buyer asking what's up but haven't gotten a reply yet.
So after all that being said, is this something I should be getting upset about or is it just the cost of doing business with strangers on ebay? Thanks in advance for any replies |

Nothing you can do about it. as a long time amazon seller I can tell you every idiot will give you a rating, but one maybe 1 in 10 regular people will take the time.

If this is the worst thing that happens to you while selling there, then count yourself lucky. eBay is not for the timid and if you plan on selling there, stay on top of it. Treat it like a job.
There are buyers on eBay that will ding ratings for just about anything. Also, many of them do not bother to read your listings or your terms of service. Also, eBay is all about free shipping now. That's why they charge you a percentage on your shipping fees. Yes, the final value fee now includes the price of the item and the shipping charges. I'm not really sure how this buyer figured they were overcharged by $10 when you say the total shipping was $7.50. Unfortunately, not all buyers are interested in contacting sellers to work out any problems. I would definitely check out Sellers Central in the discussion areas. Click on Communities at the top and go down to Discussion Forums. You should also create a posting ID. Don't post with your selling ID. It's a good area for advice but be open to the suggestions. I don't sell there anymore b/c it's not worth it. I left with clean feedback, high DSRs and a 20% discount on my final fees. The constant rule changes and fee increases made it unprofitable. If you have any more problems, checkout ebid.net. It's free to list there and they only charge you a fee if you sell something. Good Luck! You'll need it.

What everyone else said. Its REALLY HARD to sell toys on ebay. I buy & sell a lot of fishing gear and sports cards, and never have a problem with those guys, but it seems like out of the last 10 toy transactions I did on ebay (all Joes) I had issues with like 7 of them.
And honestly, I skip MANY items that Id buy in a second just because they have those type of weird shipping terms. There is such a thing as flat rate. I get completely irate when I see stuff like "First item $7 bucks, next 2-5 are 50% off each, next 5-10 are half of the first items fee" etc. Charge a straight up price for items that can all go into a box together, no additional fees. If you want to make more money on the shipping, expect people to get upset and leave neutral and negative feedback. Its GOING to happen. Hell, I get bent out of shape (not to the point of leaving negative feedback) if I see someone made $2 bucks on the shipping fee. USPS will drop off supplies and pick up shipments for free. No need to make people mad by trying to make an extra buck on something theyre already paying hard earned money for. It just makes them feel ripped off. |

Yeah, I know about the fees including shipping now but it still seems to get better traffic than the other auction sites. I have no idea where this guy came up with the $10 number either, I double checked my order details and the papal transaction because I have had people pay before I had a chance to send the invoice or before the other auction is even over. I try to go out of my way to do the right thing and when that happens I just send a refund for the combined shipping discount without them even asking, it just seems like good business and if someone did that for me I would be more likely to buy from them in the future. I guess I mostly needed to vent a little.
Thanks for the advice, I think I will check into the ebid site again, just the listing fees on ebay are enough to kill you if you are trying to sell parts. |

I just checked the usps site and the smallest flat rate box is $5.20. That is almost two dollars more than my minimum shipping. That would be enough of a difference for me to not buy a .99 item. Also, I don't know what the official ebay policy is but the extra little bit on shipping I get on some items helps pay for the bubble mailers, boxes, tape, packing and if there is any left after that part of the fees. Also, if someone disagrees with the shipping terms, I have no problem with that because they are not being forced to buy from me. I don't mean that to be directed at the previous poster personally at all, I think it is a point that has merit and just wanted to address it in general.

If anyone is still reading about this, the buyer contacted me tonight and explained he left feedback meant for another seller on my feedback by accident. He apologized and is going to modify his feedback accordingly. All is right with the world, my blood pressure is starting to come back down now.
