Have you noticed the $5 gift card deals on things you buy at Target such as toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap, etc? I think they are great because I normally buy those particular items anyway. I try to save them up and use them on toy purchases.
The other day I was going to use 2 $5 cards to buy a Lego set, but the cashier indicated that no money was on them. That was really frustrating and annoying to say the least. So a word of caution. If you get any of these $5 gift card deals quickly verify that they do in fact have money on them before you leave the store. Either have them double check or you can also call the 1-800 number on the back. Keep in mind that they often re-use cards that are empty. For example, if someone returns something without a receipt they will give out these cards with store credit instead of money. If someone uses it up, the cashier usually keeps it and it may end up being used again by someone else. In fact the last 5 transactions can be looked up when you call the 1-800 number. My problem is I don't have that particular receipt as it shows the unique gift card number that was issued and that it should have had $5 on it. |

Did you see the cashier scan the gift card to make sure they put the said amount on it?
I have taken advantage of these offers for years at Target and never had any problem. I watch them scan the items, then the "gift card prompt" shows up on the register screen and watch them scan it and I make sure it shows up on the receipt. This might be an isolated incident since, as I mentioned, I have never had any problem and the Target gift cards never expire either. I also always ask for them to give me the gift card back after I have used it all up and then I personally shred it at home.

My only hope is that I can go to the actual Target I got them from and see if they can pull up my credit card transaction. A lady at the Target service desk near my work told me to try that as a last resort. It's not really the $10, but the principal of the thing. |

You are supposed to get a receipt when you get teh card - that shows the balance.
I used to save up the $10 prescription ones. I transfer my medicines all over town. I have made hundreds that way between all the stores. Now, however, Target was dropped by my insurance. So, no more $10 cards there :(

Its in the sunday Target ad about 1x a month. Transfer a prescription there and bring that coupon from the Sunday paper ad. Get a $10 gift card from target when you pick it up.
I have 2 or 3 medicines. I transfer them all over town. Walgreens mails up a $20 or $30 voucher 1x a year, for a transferred prescription. Target runs it 1-2x a month. Each grocery store here does the same thing. So, I just make the loop among all the stores, and then bring it back around, over and over - :P I just transfer it around every month - for each of my medicines. When my son needs something filled, I do it the same way. I picked up a $50 flashlight that way a couple of years back - essentially for free. But, target is off my insurance list now :(
