I'm not a big fan...I know that sounds odd being its such a groundbreaking film, and I appreciate it for being such, but overall I didn't find it to be as much fun as I had hoped.
I'm not saying its a bad film cause its not its made very well, I just prefer other films before this one. The one aspect I really do like about it is the grainy quality of the film...it really make the film seem like something you shouldn't be watching, almost like a snuff film, and in retrospective that may be the very reason I don't like it as much as other horror films, because it feels too real for me. I've always felt some of the appeal in horror films is a controlled fear, yeah their bloody and gory, and something jumps out to scare you, but in the back of your mind you know your safe and it all fake...Chainsaw feels too real to me, and maybe thats a testament to the makers on how good of a film they made, but it put me off. I can watch it and have multiple times maybe about 10 times overall...I just don't care for it as much as others. |

I cannot get enough horror.
I'm not into gorn so much, because sometimes I feel like nausea gets confused for horror, and what I really look for is creeping dread. Bloody can be scary, but sometimes it's just like... 'I've run out of things to feel about this. Now all I'm thinking about is how much Karo syrup is gumming up the set' I like Landis-- I feel like he combines some good scares with cheeky humor in a few of his films. Romero, natch. I love the old Universal monsters, I love anything with Vincent Price, I love super-awful B-horror, psychological horror, Hammer horror... I love horror TV, too-- the Masters of Horror series had some great ones, Fear Itself had its moments... even the old craptastic 'Monsters' (a more horror-focused anthology show a la 'Twilight Zone' from back in the eighties)-- Oh! And in that vein, 'Tales From the Darkside'!!! I think I might love 'Tales From the Darkside' more than I love 'Tales From the Crypt'... Back to movies... so many vampire films. 'From Dusk 'Til Dawn', 'Near Dark', so many Draculas... FRIGHT NIGHT! Fright Night was one of my dad's very favourite movies, so I grew up on that one. It's not so much that it's scary or anything, but... it's just... there are some things about it that are perfect. The Wicker Man (the REAL Wicker Man). Folk songs have never been so disconcerting. (ngl, I frequently find myself singing/humming 'Sumer is Icumen In'. I remember Lifeforce freaking me out when I was a kid. Sometimes I read old 'Cemetery Dance' back issues looking for recs for old films I haven't seen yet, or just to enjoy reviews of ones that I have. (and, of course, for the short fiction, which is my first love when it comes to horror)

Has anyone else seen The St Francisville Experiment? It's a paranormal horror movie from back in (I think) the late 90's. I saw it and really enjoyed it, but know of no one else who saw it other than my friend who watched it with me
My thing is that I'll watch almost any horror - cheesy or regular. Some of my fave movies were the Subspecies series (love vamps). One day I want to get those on DVD. I would have to say that my favorite "big name" is Jason... Leatherface is a close second I also enjoy most zombie movies

I'll watch just about any horror movie, but my real favorites are zombie movies and pre-Twilight Vampire movies. I also have a fondness for cheesy bad horror movies like TNT used to show on Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs.

I used to be afraid of the horror movie section of our local rental stores as a kid, but once I hit 17 and was able/allowed to rent horror movies, I started going crazy with them. The more gruesome the box art, the more it interested me.
I miss being able to go to old rental stores and picking up a bunch of VHS tapes at spending whole evenings watching them. A lot of horror and sci-fi horror movies I have watched on VHS aren't even on DVD, or if they are, are really overpriced. So I went to town on VHS buying off Amazon used whereever I could. I actually frequent a few horror movie sites even as well as b-movie sites since the cheesier the horror flick for some reason the more I end up liking it. O_O |

I also reallylike Legion: Exorcist 3. An under appreciated movie.
