Those workouts are not meant for someone trying to get in shape. I realize that is who they are marketing to but keep in mind those are all paid actors on the commercials...
Nutrition for weight loss is simple and there is no magic formula, calories in vs calories out. Avoid sugar at all cost and drink plenty of water! Six small meals a day. Always focus on eating protein and complex carbs. To gain lean muscle you simply need to stimulate muscle growth by tearing down muscle fibers regularly and getting plenty of rest so they can rebuild. A few of my friends are now doing it, and they are seeing the same results as your "paid actors". |

I'm on my second run of p90x. Shit works unbelievably. And it works fast. Took 6 inches of my waist in just the second month.

I have been a personal trainer for 10 years and done p90x at the beginning of the year. I think it's a great intermediate to somewhat advanced(depending on the resistance you use) program. The variety of workout is nice and the nutrition guide is really solid as well. The only cons I see are they recommend you do the slim in 6 or power 90 programs before p90x something I never knew until getting the set. It was not a big deal for me(still tough) but someone who has never exercised probably could not stick with the program. Also the opening diet is strict and low carb which would be hard to someone used to junk food or even regular eating. I really like the program overall but I think it would be better if the workouts were broken into blocks of time where beginners could do the first block, intermediate 1st and 2nd, and advanced all 3 or something like that. Also I think a break in phase of the diet would help get people used to eating clean. But then it would not be p90x. Bottom line you follow the routine as recommended you will get great results. I just think the difficultly and time 60-90 min 6x a week combined with the super strict diet is more than most people can complete.

^^ Agreed. It's not for everyone. And it takes a lot of discipline. The first 2 weeks are straight hell. The best advice I have is, spend the 40 bucks and buy the recovery drink. It helps in an unbelievable way. I didn't get it till week 3 but it will help you so much. Relieves the soreness and you rebuild your muscles so much quicker. and it tastes good.
BUY THE RECOVERY DRINK. You will not regret it.

i'm not working out now. years ago i used to be skinny, and weight trained and got up to 215 (I'm 6'2"), and felt great and strong, but too many years behind a desk have got me at about 245. this time around i am looking to drop weight. it looks like these 2 programs are more cardio, which may be what i want this time around. but before i drop the coin, i just wanted some perspective from real people who actually use/used it. pish posh.. should try the MAN diet..
MAN diet secrets: -sleep in, often making yourself late for work -hashbrowns or whatever fried food they have at the cafe for breakfast, fried egg over top, bacon or sausage will do the trick in quantities of 3-4 -big power lunch. often peeps say breakfast is the most important meal of the day; nay to that, every meal is the most important meal of the day. burger, power sandwich (land and sea if you can), salad w/ lots of bacon bits, power danish (breakfast clearance) -pump a few energy drinks in the afternoon, to keep that power buzz going. feel yourself nodding off, just ingest a Red Bull at full strength / under 5 seconds from popped top to empty bottom. Straight to the brain, baby. -crunch it at the gym at 5-6, every day. Do 30-40 cardio, than 10-20 mins maxing lifts / reps / pull-ups / grip-bar pull ups. Turn on something violent on the TV to keep your blood flowing, or stare at hot babes working out and give'em a head nod to let them know you want to mate. -power dinner. pound it on, full strength potatoes, lots of gravy, meat, 2-3 portions worth, mix it up with some greens, power it all down with hearty soup. -max a 6-pack, straight to the brain. you can burn it off tomorrow, power soldier, you are a MAN after all.

I've always been interested in P90x, but to be honest I never felt like spending the money and the guy in the videos seemed like kinda of douche.
I've lost about 10 pounds since the start of the year (195-185) doing these, but honestly I would like to step it up, his videos are a little too easy. YouTube - DavidsFitness's Channel Also, I have been using the "MyFitnessPal" app to keep track of my calorie intake.
