The original remains one of my top ten favorite movies of all time. Do yourselves a favor and watch the original Japanese version, because there's a lot of stuff cut from the americanized one with Burr. There was no such thing as "monster movies" back then, so they made it as a serious disaster movie, with a lot of genuine tear-jerker scenes. I defy you to watch the scene where they are watching the scenes of the aftermath on TV with the school choir and Dr. Serizawa finally breaks down and agrees to let the others use his weapon, even though he knows what it will cost him, without getting at least a little choked up yourself.
You have to imagine how controversial it must have been like back then as well. Seeing Tokyo a sea of flames just a scant ten years after the American firebombings during the war. I wouldn't be surprised if people had freak-out moments watching it. I highly recommend "Japan's Longest Day" for another stellar example of classic Japanese cinema. It chronicles the events leading up to the surrender at the end of the war. How a mistranslation led to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and how the whole country almost erupted in civil war by factions who wanted to continue to fight. |

have every single movie. classic media did a great job a few yrs back pretty much releasing everything godzilla, most w/ really good quality prints, also most come with a japanese version too. you can find them cheap now. also have a ton of toys and models. my favorites have to the motorized 12" guys starting from the 90s found here: space godzilla, the crystals on the shoulders light up, walks, and roars. Great toys too...I put some pics of some of my stuff in this thread, I'll have to snap a shot of some of my other stuff too. I'm trying to get some of the original Marvel Godzilla comics...pretty ridiculous stuff, but hey if S.H.E.I.L.D can take on the big man, maybe the Joes can too! |

Count me in as a Godzilla fan. I'm not as die hard so some of you guys, but I always enjoy watching a good ol' Godzilla movie. And I have a few Godzilla toys here and there.
BTW, I noticed these classic gems at an extremely discounted price. Some are remote control and they light up. 1/48 Type 66 Maser Cannon 1/48 Type 70 Maser Cannon 1/48 Remote Control Type 66 Maser Cannon #1 1/48 Remote Control Type 66 Maser Cannon #2 (Weathered) |

My cousin had this game from the 70's. It was fun because you never knew when Godzilla would strike and get your spaceship

Over on Reloaded someone posted a link (which has since been removed) of the cartoon, where the crew of the calico faced off against some guys in blue, that had a very heavy Cobra feel to them.
Also, somewhere in my parents house, I have this old set that was a plastic mat that came with very small pink people, a godzilla and a 3 headed monster. |
