So I pulled out some 80's Joe vehicles yesterday that were sitting in my pole barn for a few years. There is some yellowing and lots of dirt. A buddy of mine is a huge collector and used "Westley's tire white" on his toys.
Can anyone confirm this as being safe and that it will not hurt my stuff? |

sorry dont know about that,
i use baby oil then rubbing alcohol to clean, sometimes dove soap first if its really dirty. to re-whiten there is a trick to use hydrogen peroxide, but you need a nice sunny day. fill a clear plastic container with hydrogen peroxide and cover with plastic wrap. place in the sunlight for hours depending on how yellow the pieces are. 3% peroxide solution has worked great for me. some say youneed the powerful salon grade 30% solution and it just doesnt seem to be true from my experience. these were cleaned with baby oil and alcohol...

Westleys bleach white is awesome on tires and white walls/letters, but ive never used it on toys( i think its WAY to strong on plastic). Ive used foaming window cleaner for dust and dirt(watch the decals!!!). As for yellowing, sometimes a good cleaner polish for autos can get a good bit off. Ive never tried the peroxide trick, but ive heard it works great....
Again just my 2 cents...

Thanks guys. I am heading out to try some dish soap first for the dirt. I was also thinking of Murphys oil soap. I have read that it is something that will not degrade plastics. I have no baby oil but do have alcohol.

Forget about cleaning toys.

A little dawn and a toothbrush go a long way. If you want them to "shine", then use Armor All. Its MADE to clean plastic.

I wash mine the same way. Goo gone works great on removing old dirty stickers real good!! I have a complete write up on using the 30% peroxide and it worked great on my storm shadow ace and snow job. Look under my signature for the link to it.
