I'm pretty sure we've done this before, but it's a fun thread so let's try it again!
What were some of your favorite teams for your vintage figures as a kid...even if they were completely ridiculous. I'll start. For one I loved Blizzard and Muskrat so much that they were pretty much my 2 "star Joes"...Swamp Fighter and an Arctic Trooper...and they always teamed up for whatever reason. Even now I think they look cool displayed together lol. Another thing I did was often give Big Boa a gun from an accesory pack. He was a trainer and all that but I used him more of a "super soldier"...basically when he was depolyed he was almost a machine on the field. You? |

When I played with my Joes as a kid, I had a faction within the Joe team that I called the "wild boys". I don't remember exactly what made a character eligible for membership but looking back I think it must have been the Joes whose file card bios portrayed them as free spirits.
I don't remember all of them but I do remember Clutch, Rock & Roll, and Footloose.....and Skidmark of all people.

I used the Steel Brigade figures as Cobra soldiers. My mom let me order several because I had so many flag points. Those were the only figs I could army built at the time, but since I didn't like the heads on them (looked more like robots) I made them Cobra troopers. I still don't see them as Joes because of those heads.

I used to make a G.I.Joe "movie" every now and then. Nothing was actually filmed or written down but it would be a 5-day thing that I envisioned as a movie.
The oddest of these was G.I.Joe 4: Operation Beachhead. The premise of this was that the government had disbanded G.I.Joe but Beachhead and Falcon (WTF!?) had decided to keep on fighting. Falcon was captured by the Iron Grenadiers (I MAY have left cobra out of this one, I'm not sure) and Beachhead was going to single-handedly take them on and get Falcon back. The highlight of the "film" was a fight sequence between Beachhead and an Iron Grenadier trooper which took place ON the rolling treads of a D.E.M.O.N. tank. The driver decided to lower the tank and crush Beachhead. Beachhead jumped off the treads, but made sure to knock down the IG trooper first, who was brutally crushed. I think I was 11 or so when I thought of this. WTF.

Before all this "i have 13,500 viper" bullshit. My cousin and I had picked an elite team of cobra soldiers since we maybe had 3 of the same cobra due to swap meets and yard sales.(vintage joes where htf back in the early 90s in my area, so you bought what you could).
Anyways, we would pick one Rock, saw, range, brown guy with the silver head (help me id this one ), and 3 other specialty, bad ass looking vipers. I Forget the plot (rescue mission or something). But these elite soldiers would take out most of our joes and they would be killed off also until it was down to a few joes vs the last 2 bad asses(usually the range and brown guy). Joes would win, rescue survivors(scarlett lol,), get off the island before the big boom.

Joes didn't come in until fairly late in my childhood, but I recall once having JvC Wet Suit on a team with Sonic the Hedgehog, Wing Gundam, Gundam NT-1, Luke Skywalker, three of the Ronin Warriors (Cye, Sage, Ryo), and Transmetals Cheetor, up against the combined forces of Darth Vader, Megatron, a horde of lego minifigs, Talpa, and Cobra Moray.
And then Squirtle entered the fray. It was a weird-ass fight.

I would set up elaborate battle scenes on my grandmother's giant oval carpet in the living room and take photos. I would use toothpicks to prop guys up that have just been shot, while having other figures reaching up to grab the recently fallen and pull them back to safety. It was pretty wild now that I think of it.
I recently found these pics is the reason I mention it. I will need to scan them and post them on here this week. i think this was back in 84..85. so i was 9-10. My favorite team up was Alpine and Hit & Run would always be doing surveillance and would be attacked by Rock Vipers and Range vipers. Somehow, they would always get away.. barely.. and like the cartoon.. miraculously never ran out of bullets. LOL

No, but seeing Toy story when it first came out in '95 when I was 4 probably had some effect on me.
