I just managed to get a Wreck of a Defiant! The main crawler base however is completely it's original colour with no yellowing anywhere and no cracks or scrapes, the problem is the 2 large springs that join the lift arms to the base are not only missing but the connection points have all very neatly snapped off! Although I want to keep this one I'm umm-ing and arr-ing about fixing 4 mecanno right angled brackets to the deck and arms then getting 2 springs to attach! here's 3 questions:
1: Without the springs will the gantry still work normally? 2: Is this a common problem with the Defiant? if so it'll probably work better with metal connection points anyway! 3: Are the springs of a high tension (So I can replace with a similar type) |

The springs aid the lifting...I think without them, and fully loaded you would over tax the gears, and crank, and possibly warp the rod or break something in that connection.
I think it's a pretty common problem...especially because the springs are stretched (under tension) when the gantry is down...the way most people would have stored it. That constant stress is too much for small plastic tabs. Not sure...but I'm pretty sure I've got some spare ones from a Defiant I parted out and Junked...send me a PM and I'll take a look around for them. |

Was that the one that was listed a few days ago on Ebay UK then pulled yesterday? If so how much did you get it for?

I paid £85, The guy only lives 45 mins from me! It was probably double what it was worth but there's a fair but of stuff that can be saved, I cleaned it all up today. The gantry is immaculate, the crawler just needs the spring problem sorted (Yeah it's quite a big problem). Both the booster and shuttle are manky although the booster had pretty much all the components bar 1 hidden gun/missile and the transporter door. I'm waiting for a 100% complete one from Belgium at the mo' which cost a fair bit, it's just that the rear of the toy is orange and I was hoping to use this one to sort it out.

Congats! I put a watch on it just to see what it went for, as it's far to big for me to buy.
I'm hoping to win the shell parts from the terrordrome, i emailed the seller two days ago asking about any cracks or breaks but he hasn't got back to me yet. Which is making me think he may be hiding something as i know hes been online since. I don't suppose you had a look at them while you were there?

Honestly I wouldn't even repair it...I have a Defiant and all that is broken on mine as well and it does not effect the playability in any way.
Way I look at it you'd be repairing something likely to break again and again. |

When I had a Defiant, I always used my other hand to support and help it up when I cranked it so I don't think you need to repair it if you are gentle and just want to display it.

The springs are going to be stretched when it is in the down position. Doing so puts alot of stree of the small tabs that the springs hook onto and they are usually snapped off. Both of mine had to be replaced. However, I took the springs off while in storage so they aren't being left to stretch and stress the plastic pieces.
Want a complete Defiant? replace them. Otherwise, don't sweat it. The system is very weak and poorly designed (Hasbro even admitted to this) thus the whole thing needs help when being raised up. HOWEVER It IS very cool to see it going up |
