i now endorse goo gone as an item to make frequent use of to quickly and easily remove stickers and their residue. ill still hit it up with baby oil after that followed by rubbing alcohol.

Looks great. Are you putting repro stickers on it?

yes, the mauler is complete and it runs perfectly. by the way, those are reproduction antennas you see there. everything else is original.

What exactly do the baby oil and rubbing alcohol do? I'm new into restoration and was wondering what your secrets are? The Mauler looks great (the Skystriker looks cool too.)

well, i used the baby oil and alcohol originally to remove left over sticker gunk. it will do the trick on most residue left by stickers.
i have recently come across some (snowcat, skystriker, im lookin at you) that needed to be removed with goo gone. i found it is much easier. it does have a gasoline-ish smell to it the baby oil and alcohol mask. if an item is very dirty i might use dove soap and a toothbrush first followed by the baby oil. the baby oil really shines up any plastic or rubber great. it brings it back to life. so no matter where the stickers were, ill soak everything plastic or rubber with a layer of baby oil applied to an old t-shirt. the alcohol is really just to help remove the baby oil. ************************************************** ******************* How to remove decals and refresh with baby oil first remove any unwanted decals and i usually completely disassemble the vehicle. use baby oil when disassembling it so you dont cause stress marks or break anything. i use a small portion cut out of an old t shirt soaked in baby oil and lather it all over and let it sit for however long you want. the hydrofoil has a lot of nooks and crannies so id use a toothbrush soaked to get into those areas. after it has soaked you need to remove the baby oil using rubbing alcohol. another larger piece of t shirt soaked will work. this is where you scrub off any sticker residue. you may need to use more than one small rag here to get all the oil off. id also let it sit for a day and then repeat the alcohol process until i had the oil removed satisfactorily. to get the oil out of the nooks and crannies use a tooth brush and flush with warm water. ***for tougher residue you can let the item soak for over 24 hours in baby oil. or just use goo gone which wont need to sit quite as long and will come off easier.*** id lube the moving parts (missile launcher tabs) again with baby oil and a q tip upon reassembly and maybe the tabs that hold the body together. hope that helps!
