The Whale was always something I wanted as a kid and never got. Originally, I wasn't going to try to get one, mainly because I didn't want to pay overinflated prices for it. However, an opportunity from another Tanker presented itself, and I went ahead and got an incomplete one from him. We made the deal in March or so, but because we live about an hour apart, it took until June for me to get it, as we both wanted to avoid shipping.
The Whale was in overall great shape. Of course, it was a little dusty, and there were some broken and incomplete parts. So I went to work and found some replacement parts and I even got replacement stickers from Cobrastickers.com. The tricky part, as most of you Whale owners are aware, were the vanes. I ended up selling the vanes that came with the original Whale, as they were incomplete, and I bought a set from brokenarrowtoys. They were fantastic; very well made and fit perfectly. The only problem was that it was a different color green than the original Whale. So what I decided to do was paint the vanes black. I thought that perhaps this would match the pontoon part of the whale. I think it turned out decently. A couple of other fixes that I had to do include: 1) The circular support for the loading ramp was broken, therefore prohibiting the door from staying on when the ramp was down, so I took one of the little circular things from the inside of the torso from an action figure, cut it in half, and glued it to the Whale and then painted it black. There will be a pic of it. 2) The door that pops open for the recon sled had a tab broken, so I cut a similar piece off of a Star Wars gun and glued it on after sanding down what was left of the original tab. Got a picture of it also. It works really well.

I have a WHALE that I packed down as a kid and when i pulled it back out of storage, realized what a horrible job i did "packing it down"
I loved this thing and remember the christmas i got it. Unfortunately the rear fans and assemblies got trashed. You wouldn't happen to have any extras would you. lol ...or know of a good resource? |

One of my absolute favorite vehicles. I picked one up on eBay a year or two ago and it's in great condition. But not this great.
Awesome restoration. That thing is super clean and you did an amazing job. |

Excellent job. I was one of those who overpaid and I still have two broken vanes. Thanks for the tip on Broken Arrow; I'll be hitting them up shortly.
