pack the parts in smaller padded boxes and NOT just baggies.
or if you have any small tupperware containers around. also use smaller boxes as well for the actual packing support like in the corners of the box WITH bubble wrap or popcorn. if you just use popcorn the bigger items tend to shift to one side of the box.

when I got my Flagg it came in three boxes. Wrap the biggest deck pieces in packaging foam - wrap it in card board - put some packaging saran wrap on it - and put some clear tape to hold it all together - then attach the packing slip. I have access to this stuff and we're only a few miles apart. We need to get together. I'll have Vaderquest, Poptart, Foolproof, and Lt. Faceless back over again soon. You're invited to come as well. I'll be more than happy to give you a hand getting it ready to ship.

I have shipped a Terror Drome before and UPS store actually had the perfect box for it. I used packing peanuts on the bottom, put the TD inside then surrounded it with more packing peanuts.
The item arrived in pristine condition according to the buyer's feedback.

I shipped a Terror Drome USPS to Italy once. Major PITA. The box was too big for International Shipping, so I had to cut it down some, fold it, bend it, tape the crap out of it. It arrived in great condition though.
For big items like that, I would recommend UPS. |

When I recieved my Defiant, it was shipped like this:
Shuttle & Booster in their own boxes, Crawler had a box inside it where the shuttle and booster go. Everything was wrapped in bubblewrap and more cardboard. All of it was put into a HUGE box. The box was one of those boxes that barbecue grills come in, the type that have a built in wodden pallet on the bottom of them. One of the Terrordromes I recieved was shipped in a box with some padding and the turrets were taken off and put on top of the whole thing (DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!!!!) Things shifted and apparently the turrets wound up in the corners of the box. They were pulverized when I got it Last edited by Shogi; 04-11-2010 at 01:23 PM.. |

yep, as gyre said, ship in smaller boxes within a large box, and/or heavily bubble wrap each piece. The defiant I believe would be the trickiest to pack, You have to seperately wrap the shuttle from the booster. because those metal connectors can easily shatter under the plastic if packaged improperly. then the crawler has to be heavily pad from within to support the blue door, or you could slip those off anf wrap them individually too. The crawler gantry's are exposed off the side and brittle. But taking them off can be hairy, so just a solid bubble wrap around that whole area of the crawler should fix that.

I had a Terror Drome shipped to me, and the guy I got it from packed it perfect, he put the smaller attachments in a smaller box in the main box, and wrapped the two dome sections with so much bubble wrap it took me almost a whole hour to unpack everything. He got an A++++ from me. Whole thing only cost me 180.00 including shipping, and it was complete.
Edit: Sorry, to see that Shogi, just saw your post two above mine, I hope you were able to rectify the situation? |

A guy I grew up with works in the shipping industry. He is a really strong, big dude. He told me that when he is having a shitty day (argument with wife, he perceives someone is rude to him), he will get in the back of his cargo truck and he will kick, stomp and treat boxes like crap. Unfortunately, he probably feels better when he hears something break. He is a complete jackass and people like him are the reason I double pack stuff I ship.
Take the advice to double pack stuff on such a hard to find item. |
