I'm not really familiar with the older toys after the point where I stopped getting them. My era was the Action Force APC and tank. Over the last couple of weeks I started looking up info on some old toys and I found out about the X-19.
Now, I don't buy old toys. In fact I've been selling off all my old Action Force stuff. But when I saw this plane I wanted it. I won an auction for it on ebay last weekend. Heck, I was the only bidder! It arrived yesterday. I likes it! This is a nice toy. If I had been a kid when this came out I would have been drooling all over it in the toyshop. It was complete and has only a few issues to deal with. (First of all the metal pin that goes through the hinge for the landing gear control is missing so I have to push the slider manually. Can anyone suggest a way of getting a little rod of metal just the right size? Also the pilot's metal hip joint thing is broken. Also a slight issue with the front landing gear door.) Anyone else got one of these bad boys? Anyone else like it as much as I do? And here's a question: Which GI Joe toy is better than the X-19? Because I'll probably want that one too! |

I had one as a kid and got lucky and got one recently in a lot. All it needs is the rubber nosecone piece and a rear landing gear cover piece and it's complete. This is a sweet plane and I loved it as a kid just like now!

The X-19 was a fantastic vehicle for it's time. Stealth was such a "Hot Word" in those days. I loved the first comic appearance where no one could remember Ghost Rider's name (because he's so stealthy...DER. lulz).
What I didn't like was how fragile it is/was. I was always way too ginger with it when I held it....so it didn't see too much battle time, unfortunately. |

I used to swoosh this thing around my house a bunch when I was 4. Great airplane, didn't like how easy it was to dislodge the canopy off of the guide rails, that was pretty annoying. I LOVED the creative take on the F-19 design...the guy who designed this may have been the same one who designed the Conquest X-30.
It was fun while it lasted, one day my neighbor who we babysitted, decided to break all of the pieces off of my Phantom X-19 and Night Boomer. Not cool. At all. |

I bought a X-19 Phantom in the late 90s, its one of the biggest and best Joe jets in the toy line.

The GI JOE Phantom X-19 is base on designs rummored to be for a secret Air Force stealth spy-plane. The design is experts best guess on a high speed stealth replacement for the SR-71 Blackbird. These designs were also speculated to be what the Advance Tactical Fighter would look like before we saw F-22 Raptor.
The ATF program produced the F-22; but the designs you see in the GI JOE X-19 are still thought to be those of a top secret Air Force plane that has yet to be seen or admitted to. Some may say the Phantom X-19 is pure Hasbro fantasy, but we know that the Air Force has several high tech aircraft that are still a mystery. The Phantom's lines do lend themsleves to the known rules for building stealth aircraft... 1. No right angles 2. Internaly housed engines with covered inlets 3. Black Ball radar absorbing paint 4. No vertical tail 5. Internal weapons bays The designs for the Phantom X-19, might also be part of a diss-information program to keep real designs secret.
