Released in spring 1987 as part of Series 6.
DECEPTIVE WARFARE Code Name: PSYCHE-OUT File Name: Rich, Kenneth D. SN: RA 091-87-6274 Primary Military Specialty: Psy-Ops Secondary Military Specialty: Social Services Counselor Birthplace: San Francisco, California Grade: O-2 (1st Lt.) Psyche-Out got his degree in psychology from Berkeley and worked on various research projects involving the inducement of paranoia by means of low frequency radio waves. Upon his enlistment he was posted to the Deceptive Warfare Center at Fort Bragg where he continued his pioneering work in the field of wave induced behavior modification. "The point at which you win a battle is when you've convinced the enemy that he has lost. This can be accomplished through something as simple as constant repetition. For example, you see a commercial on TV ten times a day for a particular brand of cookies. One day at the supermarket, you're overcome by a sudden craving for cookies. Confronted by an array of unknown brands, you choose the one that you saw advertised. They've won...And you've lost." ![]() ![]() ![]() Please vote (on a scale of 1 to 10 with a 10 being the absolute best the line has to offer) on the figure's design, sculpt, paint deco, accessories and overall appeal. Yo Joe!!! **All photos are courtesy of 3DJoes.com

i put a 10.
his sculpt is really detailed and the colors work together. i think his job is to send out bad vibes via radio waves and that works for me. it's probably not a good interpretation of his job, but i dont care. it works for me. his accessories are cool too and just help with me thinking he wigs people out on the battle field. kind of like using radio wave mhz to make people crap themselves, sleep better, or see ghosts. as a kid i didnt know that was a "science" but i still bought into the idea he made enemies freaked out with his equipment. his legs have gotten a lot of use for customs when i was into making traditional military figures. his upper body, not so much. i think i have a mandalorian pieced together using the torso. it's that bumpy texture of his shirt that makes it unusable to me. you kind of have to want that as a feature of a custom. that's why it only works for psycheout. his v3 was a side step, not a forward step because both are great in their own right. |

Here's where nostalgia plays a huge factor. I think I would have rated this guy at least an 8 or 9 if he had been in my collection as a kid. But I didn't get him until 40 yrs later in 2017 as a grown-up (hey, I like to think I am! lol).
I do remember kind of wanting him back then (but he was low on my want list for '87 figs when I was 8 or 9) and I liked the green with red deco. I was contemplating giving him an 8 but just couldn't. A solid 7 for me.

Yeah, it's a whacky design and a ridiculous specialty manifestation but this is a phenomenally executed figure. In my mind, well above average in the ARAH canon.

I gave him a 3. One of the goofiest designs in a toy line full of them. Why the hell does he need dishes on his elbows? Wouldn't the back pack be enough? I'm all for G.I. Joe having an interrogator, but this guy would make real hardened criminals piss themselves laughing.

Nothing really wrong with him. His accessories are a bit silly, but look fine. The bright colors are fine. But he is a figure I never owned as a kid, in the previous adult collection and still not in my current collection.

Another in the middle for me. Never disliked him, but I was never drawn to ever seek him out when I was younger or go back to get him as an adult. I was much more into his Super Sonic Fighters iteration.

This is one of those characters that really grew on me over time. He didn't quite fit in with many of the other beloved Joes that I loved to send on missions. Guys like Falcon, Leatherneck, Recondo, Hit N Run, Footloose, Gung-Ho, Dusty, and others had more of a military feel, but I came to love Psyche-Out nonetheless.
