So, for the 2001 wave of figures, Kay Bee Toys got the exclusive rights to the Manimal figures, which were supposed to be released in 1994, but Hasbro cancelled the line before the figures could be produced. For the best, in my opinion, as these figures are godawful and look like Hasbro's attempt to compete with the brand new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which had debuted the previous year. Releasing them seven years later didn't help their sales, as they were cancelled again before the 2002 wave.
I'm picking Sub Viper for this poll. He looks like a really good repaint of the Sludge Viper, from 1991. Link to A-K Poll: https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...re-2001-k.html Link to L-Z Poll: https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...-2001-l-z.html

eco warrior flint is top tier sculpting and my definitive head for any flint custom i make. so it has my vote.
pathfinder is second because his legs are decent parts for customs. that was the biggest thing for me about these early 00's figures, they significantly boosted my custom fodder and it was still ridiculously affordable to get the vintage line figures. |

I understand why it was done, but I don't like grouping the Manimals with the vehicle drivers in one poll. They're just too radically different types of figure sets.
I like the Manimals and was glad we got at least three of them. Wish we'd gotten the other three. Of them, Iguanus is my favorite. I'm going to show some love and cast my vote there because probably no one else will. For the vehicle drivers, I agree that Flint looks better than the original Eco Warriors verison and I like his head sculpt, but his outfit is just too goofy for me. Cutter is a decent repaint but a little too drab. I lean toward Sub Viper as the most visually interesting. Last edited by Josh Z; 04-09-2024 at 03:51 PM.. |

i actually didnt like that it was the eco warrior flint body, because it was obviously too scifi for a desert trooper. it's not like they werent putting different heads on figures during this time.
thinking about it, they could have gotten more out of the surefire mold by tossing the flint head on it in desert tones and calling that a desert ops uniform. i actually did but was super into urban camo at the time and painted him that way (but did like a weird black connecting pattern around it.) |

Cutter (v4) - Nice release, but a bit bland. They did not reinforce his crotch strip, either. Came with a bad vehicle.
Flint (v5) - Not having the mask or any helmet hurts him. Pathfinder (v2) - Not-Night Force version. Why is he a vehicle driver now? Bland and those hip posts stand out without anything to put on them. Rock 'n Roll (v6) - You mean Cable? Or Flint? I like this for what it is, but no accessories. I got one on ebay years later. A lot were available, but you just know he's RARE now or something. Sub Viper (v1) - Nice repaint but came with a bad vehicle and all that silver is just a paint rub problem. Iguanus (v1) - Manimals were goofy. Slythor (v1) - The one with easily lost glasses. Warwolf (v1) - Not really that wolfy. |

Sub Viper. He fits nicely with Lampreys, and looks more like a proper Cobra than Secto-Viper.

I went with Iguanus.
I was fascinated by the unproduced sci-fi Joes when I learned about them on YoJoe in '97. It was very exciting to have the Manimals finally released, and very disappointing that the other three were canceled again. I wish I had picked up extras when they hit clearance. Kay-Bee was always more expensive, but the clearance prices were always excellent. Part of why the are gone now I suppose... Since we only got the three, I do wish Spasma or Vortex were released in Slythor's spot. |
