For the second poll, I have to go with Sure Fire. He's the most visually interesting. All I know is that releasing Leatherneck, WITHOUT HIS MUSTACHE, is blasphemy!

surefire brought me a great body sculpt that i didnt have access to before. the overall pack as is was kind of lame.
i hate that lowlight sculpt, especially in those colors. he looks like an old man; and without the face makeup he looks even older. and not in the cool grizzled battle hardened dude kind of way. i wish so much for the v1 sculpt but better proportions (because it's head is also really terrible) |

Sure Fire is just too forgettable a character. I have to keep flipping back to the YoJoe page to remind myself who he even is.
Despite the comment above, I'll vote for Low-Light. I like that mold and these colors. |

oh totally, he was a fodder figure for me. not a new character or anything. i mentioned how these years were perfect for me to make customs in the vehicle driver thread. i have so many separated heads from this period in my fodder.

Leatherneck (v4) - Could've been Grunt, could've been a new guy. It's a fail for a few reasons, 1992 torso with 1984 waist/legs doesn't work well.
Low-Light (v5) - Fine but uninteresting. Shadow Viper (v1) - Fine figure, but terrible concept. Were there no other Cobra army builders they could use? Sure Fire (v1) - Homage to a terrible fan. Nope, won't look past that. Tripwire (v4) - Good one but bland. Does he do anything different that V1, not really. Wet Down (v1) - Zzzz, boring but okay for a rename. Wet-Suit (v6) - Boring but okay. Zartan (v3) - They remade the head but couldn't find better body parts to reuse. Zartan with a ginormous machine gun? |

Man these were trash but a newer Trip-Wire that looks pretty classic is always a nice thing to have

One of the Club guys, I think. Want to say he did the comics in the monthly magazine; not sure why he was a terrible fan, though, if I have the right guy?

ah, not sure what makes him a bad guy either. hasbro was trying to do something cool for fans. which is kind of rare.
so the brawlin one and surefire were fan club related. |

Perhaps Sean can speak more to what his own beef was? I know it was felt by many that the Club had too much influence with Hasbro about steering the G.I. Joe line in directions that fans weren't happy with, resulting in some very underwhelming yet overpriced convention sets (such as Dreadnok Rampage). Last edited by Josh Z; 04-10-2024 at 10:32 AM.. |
