Can anyone out there vouch for the plastic quality on these figures? I'm talking about the O-ring 2 packs with the Apache copter on the packaging. I have a few of these in my collection and they have held up pretty well but haven't really been posed or played with. I did take the 2001 Zartan out of storage and was playing with him a bit and the screw housing on his back torso piece snapped clean off when I was putting a backpack in him.
Is this common with these figures? I have been eyeing a few of these to fill gaps in my collection but not sure if it's really worth it at this point. I'm not a MOC collector so I would be playing around with them a bit. Don't really feel like paying 70+ for a Shipwreck and Sidetrack 2-pack when they might just break in a matter of months. |

Discoloring is the worst I've experienced, especially on that scarce final wave.
It's the 2002 GI JOE vs Cobra vintage style ones that have aged worse for me. The knees on some have just become immobile or break when moved. |

So no breaks at all? I ask because I've had it happen on a figure and I've seen some up for sale on the aftermarket with cracks and breaks on the torso which is kind of alarming to me. I've had some 2002 VS figures break on me, namely the Vipers which I hear are notoriously brittle.

As an aside, it won't net you Sidetrack, but I'd probably be willing to part with Shipwreck- I have the original, and they're not different enough to warrant keeping. On edit, I did have a comic pack Scrap Iron that kinda disintegrated, but he was HEAVILY discolored- that figure in particular seems to be especially prone to that.

I know I've been gunning for Zarana V2 from '03 but all I see are cracked ones on Ebay. And saw in a few places that cracks were very common for this figure.

I took a pile of my O-Rings out of the garage last year and noticed many of them had simply shattered in the container I had them in. Not like I just had tossed them in, either. And a few that looked OK when I put them on a stand their feet shattered or, like you said, putting a backpack on shattered the torso. |

They're pretty good, I have some 90-95% of them. In terms of overall quality, I put them right in between the original run and the abysmal quality of the '97 stuff. On the one hand, you won't have any issues with broken thumbs, but on the other, they do tend to discolor more readily than the OG stuff. I haven't had any go brittle yet, but I also leave mine on display, never really moving them unless I'm rearranging.

I'm good on Shipwreck but I appreciate the offer..Sidetrack was really the only figure I wanted out of the pack but figured another variation of Shipwreck I could just use as a fellow SEAL or something. I feel like if I got a loose Sidetrack off eBay or something he would prone to breaks, knowing my luck. Him and the medics 2-pack I would love to get at some point, and maybe a couple more Undertow's |

Might just be how they were stored?

I wanted that figure as well but put her on hiatus when the Transformers Thunder Machine came out. The Dreadknok releases from this time were pretty good!

So discoloration seems common..that's funny to hear because mine seem okay and were kept in crappy storage for a good chunk of years. No yellowing for the snow guys or the Low Light/Shockwave 2-pack. Are the comic packs prone to these issues as well or just Scrap Iron? I don't have many of those but have been thinking about getting the Serpentor from that release because my original is so fragile at this point.

AFA comic packs, I skipped many of them unless it was a substantial departure from the OG, or a V1, like Kwinn. The only one I've personally had issues with brittle plastic on is SI (so far), but discoloration seems to blanket the entire line from 2000-2006. Lastly, that medics pack is also pretty great. Again, discoloration, but even so, no regrets.
