The modern Origins snake mountain has a much more "toyetic" interior than the vintage. They both look pretty good from the front, which is part of the reason I passed on the new version. I still have my childhood one so there is a lot of sentimental attachment and I also have the Super7 version.
I don't like Super 7 prices but that Snake Mountain was genuinely an amazing achievement.

Man, of all the playsets I had, the Fortress of Fangs was the coolest. There was something about the treasure chest hidden in shadow, with the stalagmite bridge that folded down, the slide, the spiked wall... and that incredible box art. I still remember assembling it on Christmas morning.

I'm just amazed that over the years that of all the playsets Hasbro offered, they never attempted a Cobra/Silent Castle. Even if it were just three levels tall, as long as the front facade looked remotely close to either the comic or cartoon, fans would eat it up even if just for display.

The Crystar Castle was one I never had but wanted. It's genuinely awesome.

I recall wanting The Cyrstar Castle. I was disappointed to later learn as an adult that the plastic quality is apparently like packaging blister grade or something.
Power Lords Vulcan Rock was a nice base, but the scale was for larger figures, though. But you could hide small Cobra vehicles inside it. |
