So I sold my 75 Flagg and 75 Defiant to a guy, he came and picked them up on Sunday. I had no idea he is basically a huge celebrity in the comic world until I was mentioning it to my brother the next morning about who had been here and bought my Flagg & Defiant and my brother completely lost his shit because he's a huge comic fan/nerd! Apparently I was in the presence of comic royalty on Sunday and I didn't even know it LOL! The guy was so humble and down to earth, he never once mentioned anything to do with his fame- we just talked about Joe toys the entire time he was here. Pretty cool.
Reason I'm not mentioning his name is simply out of respect for his privacy. But just goes to show you never know who you'll meet in the toy collecting world-especially graded toys It's basically vindication for me to keep doing what I'm doing and to keep collecting what I like to collect which is graded stuff even though there are haters out there who say I'm an idiot for buying graded toys. I've met some pretty cool people over the years buying & selling stuff and Sunday was my first celebrity! So take that haters-- I got millionaires who appreciate the things in my collection and now have actually driven to my house & bought from me

Damn dude that's legit. I didn't even know that until after he left & a friend told me that he owns the rights now. I'm sure it was refreshing for him the fact I was oblivious to who he was and we could just visit & interact as two normal people and talk about gi joe toys we had growing up. I'm not a walking dead fan so yes I was oblivious to who he was until after the fact & people i told starting losing their shit lol.

I have seen either one of these in the back of someone's car before but never both a graded Flagg & Defiant together at the same time! He brought a Ford Expedition and with all 3 rows of seats laid down the both of these just barely fit, we only had a hair to spare it was awesome! I should've taken a picture. A graded Flagg & Defiant fill up an entire Expedition LOL. He was so happy to get them because they're just so hard to find sealed let alone graded. But yeah He couldn't have been a nicer guy. I find that extremely impressive considering his fame.

I dunno man, the people who grade for AFA take their job very seriously. It's why AFA is the 'gold standard' when it comes to toy Grading companies. They can look at factory tape under special CSI type lighting and pretty much know if a box has been opened and resealed. If the tape on any particular box is questionable then they automatically open it and inspect the contents to verify everything is there & unused before giving it a "Q" grade or Qualified scale which would be a blue sticker.
If they're satisfied the tape is original & box still factory sealed then they just proceed to grade it without opening the box. It then gets a red sticker with a grade or 'red label'. But yeah anything is possible I guess. If it's full of ponies then I guess I'll have the market cornered on them Last edited by CobraBreath; 12-08-2023 at 08:20 PM.. |

What I meant was that most people in here frown at graded stuff but there are others who appreciate it so I post for them.
No, it isn't prying. I do have graded figures but actually just auctioned the majority of them off at Hakes. I kept 20 or so ( ballpark number) figures that meant the most to me-one's I played with when I was little and sold the rest because they were ticking time bombs & once the O ring goes it's very hard to get decent money for sealed/carded graded figures. I kept the graded ones that I played with growing up though. When the O rings eventually go on them I won't care because the card art reminds me of being in Toys R us, playing with those specific figures at home, etc. I don't have much modern stuff that's graded. I really only have 1 thing modern that's graded-a eaglehawk. Chances are if the O-ring hasn't snapped already, its not going to. They are sturdier than most people think and the majority of the broken carded figures probably had a faulty O-ring with a thin spot in it. They don't just crumble into dust (other than loose figures but chock that up to playwear and exposure to the elements)- if that were the case you would see bits of o-ring in the bubble, which personally I have never seen, only the snapped o-ring still connected to the torso or waist. |

CAS is the pinnacle of grading companies. AFA is a joke and have even been caught grading reproduction tri-logo cardback Star Wars figures and other figures with reproduction weapons. If I were you I would get this regraded by CAS, it would probably wven receive a higher grade and a much better acrylic display for sure.
Man I needed a good laugh this morning! And of course it'd grade higher at CAS-they're grading scale is loose as hell.
