Some decent stuff in '86, I had about half this year's vehicle/playset selection. Out of all of them, I loved the Devilfish the most. Like the Armadillo from the previous year, I really dug the smaller vehicles because you could bring them practically anywhere and play.
I never had the Terror Drome but always wanted it, it seemed pretty badass. I never even played with it, no kids I hung out with had it either otherwise that might have gotten my vote. 4 years into the line and it was long overdue that COBRA got a cool base (that cardboard crap from Sears didn't count to me). |

This also sort of answers the question why 1985's Cobra vehicle lineup always seemed a bit "slim"? or lacking. Adding the Terror Drome to 1985 bolsters the '85 Cobra lineup count up to what it was in previous years.

Hey don't shit on the Missile Command HQ, that was and remains badass. Had a total SPECTRE or HYDRA feel, and as a kid I loved the cardboard Star Wars locations, so this fit right in.

I can't believe the Terror Drome was only 45 dollars when it was released.

I can't believe the Tomahawk doesn't have more votes.

Air Chariot - Supervillain ride for a supervillain character. the fins would fall out because the hull tabs nearby didn't snap tight.
Cobra Hydro-Sled - I remember thinking this was really for underwater like the movie Thunderball. It's funny how the cartoon never used it. It's a really boring item but not terrible. One of the prone operating position vehicles of 1986. Cobra Night Raven S3P - I thought it was sooo cool. But I rarely played with mine, because it's not a ground attack plane or a fighter. Not sure what to do with it. Drone is operated in prone! Cobra Stun - One of the exposed driver vehicles of 1986. I liked it at the time but those red parts don't age well, eh? Also, the design is weird, as the vehicle is angled upward by design. It was Cobra's first really silly item, even compared to the questionable flight pod. Cobra Terror Drome w/ Firebat - Epic but if you've seen one, awkward to move around. So for kid interactions, it suffers. I was bugged by the lack of any way to get to the top. Just use your imagination. Sure, sure... Conquest X-30 - I think you either accept the swept forward wings or don't. I think they are fine. They had room to make it a two seater, I think, but didn't. Devilfish - Nice little boat, the foot pegs make no sense. H.A.V.O.C. - GI JOE first silly large ground vehicle, exposed and prone operating positions! The beginning of the land cruiser trend of unrealistic ground combat vehicles with multiple weapons systems and removable smaller vehicles. It's grown on me, but I disliked it back then. It's always smaller than I remember, because after this similar concepts get bigger. L.C.V. Recon Sled - GI JOE sneaks around, do we want GI JOE sneaking around in this thing? What is this thing? Well armed for something trying to be undetected. Another lying on your belly ride. Tomahawk - I didn't have it then. I knew those who did. The rotors are a pain in the butt, since they cannot fold and removing them risks breakage. |

I never cared for the Conquest until they did Python Patrol colors, then it suddenly looked much cooler.

The Raven is my favorite toy I ever owned.
Never owned a terrordrome, but that thing is amazing. I'm happy to see it run away with this.
