I voted on the HISS for this, looks like the HQ's going to win. I never had it, but I remember I had the insert Joe catalog from '83 and always wanted it since it was featured prominently on the cover and was one of the new highlights of that year.

Kind of surprised the HQ is running away with this. I have one on display now and like it a lot, but never owned one as a kid. It bugged me back then (and still does a little now) how open and vulnerable the base is. It's a pretty impractical complex for its stated purpose as a headquarters.

For me, this contest is really only between the Skystriker and HISS.

But it's incredibly practical for its purpose as a toy. I'd rate it the best playset in the line. It's even expandable in a sense if you combine multiples.

Looking at them now, I really prefer the Dragonfly to the Skystriker. I think the Stinger is way more playable than the HISS and that the Thunder Machine, Maggot, Havoc, Mauler, pretty much all the mid-sized vehicles 84-87 eclipse the HISS in features and playability.

It's awesome how so many perspectives and approaches to this fandom there are. There are so many entry-points and eras.
