Okay so Sneak peek and Crazylegs had some experimental gear, but a soldier should be in army green right?

Army Building: usually a word associated with Cobra legions or imperial stormtroopers. Well, give each of the Joes some standard army green and ditch some of the more sci-fi fantasy examples, and they at least look like they're all in the same force, without losing each figure's individual character.

Winter wonderland: Frostbite has an experimental pattern from the eighties, Snow Job is in German, Iceberg's vest is a commercial urban/winter pattern. For Stalker I just gave him a standard BDU uniform under his jacket.

By the late nineties, only a handful of Joes were left but the unit was intact. The last hurrah was an urban exercise in 1999: a small team joined a multi-force operation and apparently trounced whole platoons of the defenders as opfor, with only small arms, grenade launchers and an ageing Alsatian.

When Lady Jaye takes her special missions team on an operation behind enemy lines, she makes sure security is paramount. They use non-regulation camouflage, mismatched foreign weapons and codenames so silly no soldier would be caught dead using them. Oh, wait...
*Left to right: Brit DPM, darkened OD, Rhodesian, blue jeans (why not), French lizard, desert DPM, French temperate (probably nineties that one) and tiger stripe. Last edited by Joeness; 09-04-2023 at 06:51 PM.. |

That Lady Jaye is easy enough to make for real. Slap a Jaye head on a Volga body and you've pretty much got it.

https://www.yojoe.com/action/98/volga.shtml Volga looks like they just reused Jaye's body and harpoon and repainted her. This is actually reasonable proof of concept as to what they could have done if they'd spent more money on a couple more coats of paint (and the tooling/process of course). My whole philosophy for this project was what if they'd at least tried to emulate current camo patterns with the tech of the period. Well, I've about wrapped this one up I'm afraid. Did all the figures I had at the time as far as I can recall, plus a few I wished I'd had. If anyone has requests of a joe they'd like to see recolored with a certain look I'll give it a go and upload it here. I find photoshopping these images as cathartic as playing with the old toys themselves and it's been quite fun revisiting my days of Joeness. Side note: Does anyone want me to play with Soviet camo for the Oktober Guard? That'd be a fun challenge. Last edited by Joeness; 09-04-2023 at 07:26 PM.. |

Go for it. I liked what you've done so far with GI Joe...
