So Zartan and Destro got praised, while Big Boa, Darklon and Raptor got bashed. Though I do recall the Crimson Twins were not as well loved as pre-1985 characters. Serpentor even less popular.

Interesting. As with so many things, the "first to market" effect with ARAH has been insurmountable. I wonder if the later stuff will continue to rise in estimation over time.

I got back in (by that I mean reading forums and such) a few years ago, and also read the Marvel comic run for the first time around then. I was born in 85 and I honestly don't think anyone I knew was even aware there was a GI Joe comic book. Certainly no one ever mentioned it.

I first got into Joes in 1990 and started watching the DIC toon at that time, too, so I knew of Capt Grid Iron as the Joe leader before I even knew who Duke or Hawk were. I realize that's a pretty anomalous time to jump in now, but it also perhaps helps me to be a little more clear-eyed toward the earlier stuff.

And that's not to say I dislike the early stuff, but it just seems far from realism.
