For me the remakes were my first chance at getting some of the classic characters I missed out on. I was 9/10 in 1992 so getting my own Duke, Eel, Wild Bill, Wet-Suit, Gung-Ho was really cool. I certainly appreciate the more grounded military designs of the earlier years of the run but for me I can still remember how excited as a 10 year old I was to get my own versions of some of the more iconic joe/cobras in the line.
As spring action accessories go, the Eel's shark was fun. Bonus enemy robot instead of just a launcher too big to hold. Wet-Suit's sled was good on paper, but I was never bold enough to get his hands on those grips. |

I can dig that. Remaking characters was fine. But a lot of the 1992 to 1994 ones missed the mark for me.

Felt like the bright colors of Eels worked fine with what I put him in - the BUGG.
But as an underwater trooper he screamed "Floating Target" |

'91 Snake Eyes is a crime against humanity for wearing a bright blue shirt, yet '84 Storm Shadow showing up to battle in an even brighter white is somehow the epitome of cool. It's a travesty when 90s Joes veer away from "realistic military" to don hazmat suits and such, but when the Crimson Twins somersault into battle in circus leotards they are beyond reproach. Sunbow Duke in his yellow shirt and green pants is a stone cold icon, but Grid Iron in his green shirt and yellow pants is complete trash! Destro 's shiny silver head and flamboyant outfit makes him a total badass, but any 90s Joe with a splash of color should be melted in a microwave. Etc, etc. |

Feels like General Flagg is getting so many votes because most people here prefer that realistic aesthetic.

One day left to get your votes in! Will Flagg jr. take the win?

It took me forever to decide about this one. I finally went with Duke because he was the one that brought me the most joy when I saw him in the store for the first time as a kid. I was way too young for either of the proceeding Dukes, and getting your first Duke is a big deal.
He's perhaps the only Joe from the '92 main line that felt like he had "main character" potential. |

There are definitely a lot of ridiculous designs in the 90s, but one of the most surprising things to me since I've gotten back into GI Joe as an adult is the viciousness so many show toward 90s Joes while having gaping blind spots regarding the ridiculous designs of the "peak years".
Of course, this was the time when the major online contributors were mostly comic book purists, and there was also heavy bashing and dismissing of the cartoons. So Zartan and Destro got praised, while Big Boa, Darklon and Raptor got bashed. Though I do recall the Crimson Twins were not as well loved as pre-1985 characters. Serpentor even less popular. |
