The only problem with repros can be summed up with the following sentence:
"I think all of my parts are original."

Yeah, there is that if you're honest & selling to someone looking for all original.

It is easy to tell a Black Major figure apart from an original. The Gold Head Steel Brigade for example looks spot on sitting on the shelf, but once you hold it in your hand you can tell by the plastic that it is not an original figure.

Can you tell that from pics on ebay though? Serious question. I've never even bothered to look at them.

And if you care about that sort of thing, the learning curve is steep because repros get better with technology so you have to learn every single new method to tell apart repros. Not sure what I'd do if I had a set of Power 9 cards as the repros just keep getting better for example.

I've been on the fence about repros but I don't see an option if I ever want to get the 4 visors necessary to complete my 82 lineup.

I don't really have any rules. I try to stay as original as I can.
I don't really like the Black Major stuff. It has become a huge problem at shows - bins and bins of this crap. Then you have people get out of the hobby and dump all of the BM stuff and it's a chore to deal with. A collector less versed in the hobby might not be able to spot a Black Major Alley Viper and that bothers me a bit. I have repro black antennae on all of my WORMS drivers. It's fine for me. I like to do rotating scenes, dioramas, and silly joke stuff for Instagram, so most of my accessories are in clamshells in bins in the closet anyway.

1. MOC
2. 1 of each character only except CC and snake eyes as commando, and 85 are both 3. dope, and hooded, mask and battle Armour are dope. 3. Right now only reaction as I don’t want to deal with broken orings and love the sun bow look. 4. Don’t want a massive room of joes so no vehicles and only top 25-40 figures, as want them on a shelf. |

1. I only buy figures I think are cool. Generally, that is more realistic looking figures. I am not a completist in the least.
2. I am a customizer and an opener, but so as to avoid making what could be a costly financial mistake, I don't open a figure until I am ready to "use" it, either to make something or even just to play or display it. It also makes it easier to not lose parts that way. Sometimes, I change my mind about a figure, that is why I leave them unopened until i need them. For example, i have a GIJCC widescope still MOC. I don't need the dog, and MGR has the same rifle. Also, because I am an opener, I won't pay extra for MOC/MIB, but weirdly, there is often no price difference or the carded figure is actually cheaper. 3. I have different 'verses or head cannons and I collect based on those. Right now, I am buildng a late steampunk/ early diesel punk turn of the century world with CFT, Indiana Jones, and compatible figures. 4. I only do 3.75/4/1:18. I need compatibility. No 6 inch. 5. I prefer modern GI Joe or Star Wars TVC level of detail and POA. I might buy something else though referencing rule 1. 6. I have become very careful of what I buy due to space concerns. |
