lol I don't mind the smokers, tbh. I mean, I suppose there are some items out there that were on display in the homes of generations of smokers, but I've either been lucky and never encountered it, or it's never been bad enough for me to notice much. Early on in my collecting I'd usually get stuff covered in years of funk though...dirt, grime, likely boogers and that greasy-sticky film from body oils and other secretions...*shudder* It's hard to tell sometimes how much of the stickiness is from human funk or from the plastic breaking down and "leaching" chemicals. When I was buying used, I learned to actively avoid most of the seemingly "good deals" and stick to the more expensive shit that appeared to have been owned awhile by an adult collector who obviously kept it clean. Paying a premium was worth it to me to not have to deal with layers of biological and chemical agents.

I did everything I could to air it out or remove the smell, but it never fully came out. Eventually, I did seal that one up in an acyrlic container so I wouldn't have to smell it anymore. |

For 3.75" figures, I only collect figures or vehicles that I owned at some point as a kid (I gave my originals away when I outgrew them). Figure needs to be in excellent shape (No broken thumbs or crotches, no joint cracks) with good paint, have all original accessories, and include a file card/blueprints. I don't collect mint on card, but having the full card back or vehicle box is appreciated. I'm more or less "done" with that part of my collection, since I picked up everything I cared about decades ago and don't army build.

For Classified I started off getting everything but have pivoted to only buying figures that speak to me, which are a lot of them but I don't hesitate to not pre-order some figures and if something goes a on fire sale and I kind of like it I might pick it up. I have also decided to stay away from most repaints so far unless it is Tiger Force because there is something about them I like. I am doing some squad builds for things like BATs, Vipers, etc, but I am not going to get more than a handful of a figure. I will most likely get any vehicles as well (can't wait for my HISS!)
For 3.75 I am being super picky and mostly only care about vehicles. I still have my childhood collection which is pretty robust and picked up some 25th and 50th here and there, but there are few things if we see reissues or Haslabs that I like that I don't have a version of currently that I would jump on: Rattler, Night Raven, Hydrofoil, Dragonfly (have one but it is pretty beat up) and Whale are top of mind. |

For me, I have my wonderful collection I had as a kid, then updated and pretty much completed. That means: every individual character in the 1982-1994 run. Loose. Decently complete with accessories except when the accessories are stupid. No to the various repaints and Tiger Forces and the like. Yes to the early second versions of characters like Rock n Roll and Stalker... no to the later second versions in the 90s. File cards a must. I have all the vehicles that I either A) like or B) have room for. SO that's most of them but not the really huge ones like the Flagg.
I JUST realized I should go back and buy some of the later-era O-Rings , so I'm on the lookout for Wreckage, Sub Viper, etc. I WISH I could get the Club exclusive O-Ring ones like the Q Force, but dang, just too expensive. I do have the Oktober Guard already, thank goodness. i had the Valor vs Venom era but they are unloved and in a box. I Love the 25th line and bought the figures with the same general rules above. Collectors Club figures, too. I wish I could find Claymore and Sparta to complete the Collectors Club ones. I'm also realizing I should add to this set with some of the ROC and POC ones I skipped at the time but who are actually pretty cool or individualized. And after a moment's hesitation I get the Classifieds too. With the same rules -- individual characters only, with the exception of my faves Gung Ho, Destro, Roadblock, for whom I added the 2nd versions to the shelf. And for all, I have to have the file cards, or in the case of the Classifieds, their box art. I've made some pretty cool folders for them! (I'm on the lookout for some of the more modern file cards I discarded at the time, like for the ROC /POC people, so if anyone has some to spare, let me know... ) Last edited by Mer Jim; 02-06-2023 at 03:26 PM.. |

https://www.highdefdigest.com/blog/d...action-figure/ The woman I bought from claimed that she also had a Lady Jessica prototype somewhere in storage, but when I tried to follow up with her about buying it, she never got back to me. I assume that either she never found it, or some other high-roller swooped in and got it first. Last edited by Josh Z; 02-06-2023 at 05:22 PM.. |
