Has anybody tried to remove the gear & wing mechanism & if so will the landing gear still work to have the wings swept back?

I can't remember the link but someone sells a piece that you can replace the mechanism with that will separate the wings and landing gear mechanism.
I did it before but the way I did it, it does not allow the wings to move together. It just moves independent of each other. Here is a picture of my 30th Anniversary one modded. It was easier on a vintage one though as the 30th has the top and bottom glued together whereas the vintage one, I was able to separate completely. What I did was just cut the teeth on the wings. ![]() However, like I said, someone sells a 3D printed replacement drop in piece for the vintage one. I just can't remember who. It's in this forum somewhere.

Zap Rowsdower had that mechanism or something along those lines available. Haven't seen him post in awhile though, no idea if he's still around or not.

He's around, but he posts months in between sometimes. Maybe
a PM or whisper and he'll come around to it? https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ml#post5612838 |

I took apart a vintage one when I restored it. Based on how things fit together, I would expect the wings to flop around along with the front landing gear. The rear landing gear might stay closed without the mechanism but could also pop open.
Personally, I'd leave it alone unless it was broken, or swap it out with Zap's system. Zap posted in his WIP thread back on 1/8, so you can try messaging him. |

The mechanism holds it. You remove it without replacing bit with something like Zap's, it'll just flop around.
