Question about how you all like to store the larger planes, so that they don't get warped or damaged...
Basically, I don't have display space for all my planes and don't want to get rid of them - so, I'm going to store them away until I have the space to display. Previously, I was using storage bins, but it's kind of a waste of space... One large bin only holds 2 or 3 planes. My thought is to string them up between the floor joists in my basement, using some kind of netting or twine. I'd run the twine perpendicular to the joists every 4 inches or so, and the planes would just rest on the twine. The spacing between joists looks like it's wide enough to fit the larger ones like the X-19. But I'm a little worried I'm over-thinking this. Anyone have good storage ideas for these larger vehicles? |

I had done something like that in my office for display and it worked well. But I needed the space for something else and had to pack things away. The storage area I have isn't much of a display space, but I suppose I could give some slack to the lines so that they hang a little lower than the joists... that way, I can still see them when I'm in there

Most of my jets are currently in my closet, but they're on vertical stands from displaystandsdirect.com. There are options in all sorts of positions, but I don't have that much space.
The vertical ones work great so long as you are looking to save shelf or counter space but have plenty of vertical space to spare.

I store mine in big boxes, aircraft stacked on top of each other and separated by shipping paper and other soft material.

I'd be cautious hanging them from the ceiling over cement or concrete flooring in case they fell, things happen even when you think they're secure |
