Both are awesome, but sometimes one edges out the other.

I've always liked aircraft, especially military aircraft, and especially the Skystriker. So I always wanted the USS Flagg and I am lucky that I have mine. The downside is that it takes up a lot of space when assembled. And that has limited how often I have had it fully assembled. I have to say having had mine for over 30 years that it seems pretty sturdy. The antenna mast is probably the weakest part which broke early. (I finally replaced it last year.) I also had one of the elevator truss supports shatter when it fell out of my hand a few years ago. But I replaced it last year too.
I have never seen a Defiant Space Shuttle Launch Complex in person but they look really cool. I've watched YouTube videos from formbx257 about the Defiant with all its play features, Easter eggs, and weak spots. It looks like it has a ton of play value. I've heard that the blue doors are particularly fragile. I've read a lot of eBay listings where sellers will ship the shuttle and booster but will only do local pickup for the gantry. |

I was always partial to the Defiant. Nothing against the Flagg, but I was just more into space than Air Force stuff.

I think the Defiant would edge out, but I don't really know for sure as I never owned either one.
As an adult I look at the Flagg and just kinda shake my head at it's sheer size and marvel that there were many/any parents willing to buy their kids a toy as massive as some dining room tables. |

Defiant. It's basically 3 toys in one. Gantry as a base, Boosters as a space lab and the shuttle as an aircraft. My Defiant's cranking gear broke, but I can still raise it manually. The Shuttle's door's broke, but I glued it back.
I never had a Flagg, not that I didn't want one, but as other mentioned, I just didn't have that kind of space as a child even if I had that kind of cash. (I saved up all year for the Defiant). |

Never was a big fan of the Flag, too "real world". I wanted the Terror Drome, but the Defiant would have been my second choice.

I'd be happy with either, but I simply don't have anywhere to put the Flagg. It'd spend almost all of its time broken down and in storage.

As a toy, the Defiant is the better item. It has more play features. It's portable. You can move the gantry around to play with it, and you can remove the shuttle and booster to play separately. Most importantly, it's a complete vehicle/playset from all 360-degrees.
In comparison, the Flagg is a glorified play table. Once you set it up, it's not moving anywhere. The entire backside is wide open like a vivisection, which may hurt suspension-of-disbelief for some kids. It also has limited play features. Its main purpose is just to be a landing strip for other vehicles you have to buy separately. That said, the Flagg is decidedly a statement piece. The scale of it is super impressive. Owning one was guaranteed to make any other kid jealous. Even as an adult, it still has tremendous cachet as the ultimate G.I.Joe collectible. I wish I had the money and the space to own one myself. |

I never saw either one in person until I started going to Joelanta several years ago. They are both impressive, but I'm going with the Flagg. It would be sweet to get one updated for ME figures. I saw at JoeFest, there was a potential KS for one starting in 2022, but I don't know if that will come to fruition.
