He always looked like an updated Range Viper to me. An all around great figure, given how badly the rest of the figures around then were painted.

this was easily my favorite figure from the 90's. so badass. they rereleased him as a convention exclusive in 2008 with much better weapons.

On a side note, I was able to build these two figures from the bag today. I forgot Destro was this huge:

It's amazing the things you could get on eBay 15-20 years ago dirt cheap. There are still a lot of early 80s body parts and heads in there. Many I can't identify since a lot of the 82/83 figures had identical sculpts.

I'm now really wondering why they could chrome out the head of a $3 figure but not on a $25 figure. Is the process that much more expensive? Did they lose some sort of wisdom after 40 years?

Lenny mentioned this very thing in the recent Q&A. He said something about the vac-metal process not working on the softer plastic they use for heads these days. They were contemplating it for Cobra Commander's faceplate, though, as that can be engineered as a separate piece I assume.

I also recall something about vac-metal being really bad for the environment as well, but I assume with the announcement of the Retro C-3PO and R2-D2 that they either don't care about that for those figures, or have figured out a better way of doing them.

I've never actually seen an '83 Destro next to another figure; I had no idea he was that much taller. Sort of explains why so many of the 25th-and-onward Destros are taller than average.

Red Star's rocket launcher was amazing. It really stood apart.

Yeah it kind of surprised me too even though I've had a couple Destros I bought first hand in the 80s as a wee lad. I never noticed it much until the comparison.

Side note number 2, the distilled vinegar method works so well with removing rust from screws on these. The Stormtrooper had no rust, but the latter two did. A 10 minute soak and a little scraping made the screws look new again.

I went nuts trying to find this guy as a kid. Never did.

Regular Headhunters and Headhunter Stormtroopers are very needed in Classified.

Around 93 is when I stopped collecting these so I never saw him before. He would look awesome in 6" scale.

I have an attachment to some of my figures that I'm trying to let go. Now I feel like keeping this one too. I need help.
