Card art: He looks a little less muscular on the card. His pose is just great, just like how I would be using the figure in my battles. Figure sculpt + colors: Great! The knife sheath could've been a bit slimmer. Colors are just perfect, apart from the ammo belt. Weapons + accessories: The rocket launcher is a very nice thing, but because of lacking wrist articulation the elbows always have to point sideways. The knife is very cool. Ammo belt is one of the best in the line, sculpting wise. All those bullets look so realistic. As a kid I thought it was strange that he didn't have a machine gun for it, but now I know some soldiers in a platoon carry them for the machine gunner. I'm glad Backblast was produced before the springloaded era, otherwise he would've gotten a huge ugly rocket launcher. I really like how the rockets are designed in such a way they don't fall out of the tubes when you hold it upside down. Memories from your youth: He came into my childhood collection during the winter together with Alley Viper and the Razorback. He got quite some playtime. I never differentiated surface to air, surface to surface, air to air missiles etc. In my Joe-verse every rocket could be fired at any target, so Backblast blew op a lot of bunkers and land vehicles! |

Card art - Adequate. Not the best. 5/10
Figure sculpt + colours - Sculpt is solid, I'd not have given him a boot holster, just put it on this right hip where there's those straps. 9/10 Paint is good. There's some details that could be highlighted, but for its time its fine. 9/10 Weapons + accessories - Launcher is cool but an awkward hold. Big knife for some reason. Monocular. Ammo belt is odd and I disliked how it looked on him and never used it with him. 7/10 Memories from your youth - Not much, he was such a realistic guy that he was used some and never got a personality...not much media to give him one. Overall: 8...I guess. |

I don't like him. I got him recently and his weapons are weird and kind of stupid. The knife on his arm is also terrible.
He's a 3 out of 10. Heavy Duty is also stupid and weird but a little bit better version of this.

For such an old toy with limited articulation, his ability to pose with his weapon accessories isn't bad.

The weapons are surprisingly realistic, and not very weird or stupid in my opinion. The 1989 Backblast (Anti-Aircraft Soldier) is armed with a British/Canadian weapon that perhaps you do not recognize. It is the Javelin MANPADS (man-portable air-defense systems).
For such an old toy with limited articulation, his ability to pose with his weapon accessories isn't bad.
