The leg screws I've removed have been pointed at the end and the back screws are flat as most probably know. I've seen most sellers offering flat end saying it's for leg and back which isn't the case.
Just wondering if anyone knows a good place to pick up both leg and back screws that are accurate and won't crack the plastic. I'm working on getting 1982-1990 figures up to speed. |

Actually, those sellers are somewhat correct. I've restored about 190 figures or so over the past 3 years, which consists of complete disassembly to wash them in soap and water and reassembly with a new O-ring. Pointed screws are generally in all of the 82-86 figures, and I think they switched to flat screws around 87-88 or so. Sorry, I didn't pay much attention to the exact year they switched over - just something I noticed. I just cleaned a 1990 Rock Viper last weekend and all of his screws (including legs) were flat-ended. Most of the later figures are that way.
To be fair, there ARE some figures that have pointy leg screws and flat back screws, but it's not an especially common thing from my experience where the majority of figures are assembled that way - maybe just a year or two. There are some slight size changes over the years which is likely to be the bigger issue when you're looking at screw replacement. However, you may be able to clean up the original screws. If just rust is the problem, you can just take the rusty screws and soak them in white vinegar for a few hours...it will knock a good chunk of the rust off. Rinse, dry, and reassemble. |

I remember trying to replace pointy leg screws with flat in the past, and I felt resistance like it was going to split the plastic. So I backed them out and just used the old ones. But the same screws worked fine in the back of the figures. |

I'll try to clean them up first. Most are good, but the more pricey ones I want to be as perfect as possible with good screws and o-rings. I saw some heavy rust on one of my near mint Baronesses that may or may not hurt the value much.
