I was looking for information on the Street fighter Shadaloo Fortress (still am) and found this:
JoeDios.com Forums - Vintage O-Ring Molds Destroyed? Is this true? did Hasbro just purge all of the old molds in favour of 25th figures? And, doesn't that sort of kill all reissue possibilities? This gets to me, I prefer O-ring figures. If so, this is really bad news. I hope Hisstank already knew about this. Last edited by Kiddcade; 08-19-2009 at 09:57 AM.. |

That seems like an insanely stupid move... even if they never intend to use them again, they're a great piece of history for the company that should be archived or at least on display somewhere (maybe their company HQ?).

No...but they did sell most of them off mid 90's during restructuring. They weren't destroyed, but rather passed onto lesser companies. They did this with a bunch of their classic designs.

I spoke with Lanny at the club, and he did confirm that some molds were indeed destroyed, though not all of them. The club does (at this point) still intend to offer their yearly membership figure in the RAH format (as long as the can viably do so), but the Con sets are most likely going to be 25th from here on out.
One of the main reasons for this move by Hasbro was "looking forward" and financial. Storage on a library of molds that large would be immense to say the least, and with a limited return on that money, it becomes increasingly difficult to justify it from a business standpoint. I don't like it per se', but I do understand it. |

I worked for a plasticating company...the molds used to make even small parts aren't exactly small; that would take up a fair chunk of space.

The GIJCC said that the factory in China needed to make space. So the made a list of all the molds that haven't been used in the last 10 years. They gave that list to the GIJCC and said "you must make some room and get rid of what you can't or won't use". The GIJCC wanted to keep them all but the factory said they couldn't. So from what the GIJCC said they got rid of about half of the molds. Also the GIJCC said that the molds were rusting from not being used and that it cost more to restore a mold then it cost to remake it.

Really I guess I am not surprised I can see them talking up a lot of space what they should do is destroy all of the V. vs. V. molds I don't think they will use those ever again

Come on, don't you like figures with extremely short torsos? Who needs a stomach anyway?
