Figure wise nothing I really hate. Deepsix is slightly disappointing with his lack of articulation.
Vehicle Wise I hate the Falcon and Viper. They were made of terrible foam. They damaged figures. They were so prone to breaking Hasbro had to include directions on how to repair them with glue and tape on the assembly instructions. I never really cared for the Manta sailboard either. |

By the time that the '82 figures came to my area, I had already read issue #1 of the comics. I remember the commercials that introduced the figures and I was like "Breaker doesn't have a beard!" I had a buddy who got Zap prior to me getting Breaker and Snake Eyes (my first figures) and I couldn't figure out who he was because he didn't have a mustache. So basically with the original figures, I disliked that they didn't look like the comic book versions. I particularly didn't like the Grunt/Zap/Grand Slam head sculpts. They just looked off to me.

Zartan. He started the trend into wildly unrealistic characters that were more comic book heroes/villains than military personnel.
Bazooka was a pretty boring figure. At least the cartoon made him kinda funny, even if they portrayed him the opposite of how his filecard described him. Like others have said, the SNAKE armor was just lame. Silver Mirage, while cool in theory was too fragile a toy. |

Not giving Wetsuit a weapon really killed the figure for me. Looked awesome, just need an HK or an Uzi or something.

I'm not much of a fan of the 82 green shirts, with the exception of Stalker (not really a green shirt IMO). I got into Joes in the late 80s, so the thing that attracted me to them was their diversity of design, and the green shirts just felt like generic articulated green army men when I discovered them as an adult. I never read the comic as a kid, nor did I have the cartoon, so I never associated personality or character with the green shirts, and I didn't have them as a kid, so I have no nostalgia for them beyond the fact that they're o-rings. Maybe I would feel differently if I grew up with them, read the comics, or was just really into military culture (which I wasn't). I don't really dislike them, there's just nothing that really excites me about them.

For 1983, I do not like Ace the Astronaut or Tripwire the I-detect-my-own-mines guy. Wild Bill gets an honorable mention because while I love his character and head sculpt, the body sculpt/coloring just puts me off. For 1984, Recondo gets the Most Boring award, and he has a stupid hat. For 1985, Tele-Viper and Crankcase. Tele-Viper was just not a good figure, and Crankcase's head/helmet/short sleeve combo just look terrible. |

I got joes in the mid-80s and 1982 never did anything for me either. They all had bland, sleepy expressions, and the head reuse aged poorly even by 1984.

Granted, he wasn't actually mine, he belonged to my cousin who had all the coolest shit, so that might have had something to do with it too.

I remember getting the Dragonfly and thinking Wild Bill was not the coolest figure, and always had issues trying to close the canopy due to his hat, but Ive grown to like him more, most probably due to nostalgia. |

It?s interesting, because ?sometimes? I find it hard to separate whether I like a figure because of the design, or nostalgia. I know it?s the design of the green shirts I?m not into, but I actually have some love for Trip Wire, and I think it?s partly nostalgia for the Tiger Force trip wire I had, but also because of the removable land mines he could store in his pack. I had a thing for figures who could store small accessories on their backpacks.

Also I just noticed that Wild Bill apparently has to cross-draw both his guns, and they are almost at knee level. I guess he confuses his opponents by doing that hand-knee dance and then shooting them? |
