Purchased some vintage Joe's and got them in today. Bought off eBay from several different sellers. The figures I received look brand new as I'm a stickler for condition. I noticed on the majority of them that the knee joints are super tight. Making me fear that I might toht snap the peg inside the knee if I force anything. Any advice on what I need to do to loosen them up?

dont do anything. if you bought them for display - there you go. if you bought them to play with, dont worry about it.
if they snap, just glue the peg into the hole on the other side; but make sure to remember to note that when you sell it. someone may be concerned about that. i was putting together a custom yesterday and the upper leg just shattered. what i did to fix that was put it back together and fill the inside with superglue. what i normally do when customizing, and i need to sand off a bunch of stuff off the side of the leg or torso, is fill that cavity with enough resin (the 15 dollar quart from walmart) and then sand as needed. |

In a past GIJoburg podcast, I think Paul or Steven talked about sanding to fix tight joints.

Take the figure apart and remove the leg screws and soak in warm water to heat the plastic. Then, very carefully (slowly) take the thigh piece apart. Next, clear out the debris from the knee hole that the peg slides into and allow the parts to fully dry. Finally, reassemble the fig and you should be good to go. Keep in mind that some figs like 84 Zartan are quite brittle and I?ve had several break taking apart the thigh pieces. |

When you have a really tight knee what has likely happened is that friction has removed a small bit of plastic from the moving parts and created a powder-like residue. Eventually this will act like glue and stiffen the knee up so much that it breaks the pin.

Even though there is a back screw, those figures have torsos that are glued together due to the color change plastic. This makes it impossible to change the o-ring. It is possible to crack that glue but it is a nerve wracking process. You can it by slowly wedging an exact knife between the halves or wrap the torso in a heavy towel, place it in a vice and very carefully crack it. As I said, difficult and it will make you sweat.
