If asked even 5 years ago, I'd have said that they were different eras, in fact, they we're the second to go when I'd decided to go all vintage back in the day.
Now, however, I get the same nostalgia that I do when I look at the original run, as they were what brought me back into collecting more than 20 years ago. They also mesh nicely with ARAH (especially the ones that were given the non-neon overhaul, as mentioned above.) Officially speaking, yes, they are a different era, as are the TRU 97-98 run... but for my collection purposes, I just consider them a small extension. They're an extension of the ARAH run. If you're dividing the entire line into just the categories of ARAH, New Sculpt, and 25A, then that's where they fit best. As far as overall thoughts of the '97-'02 figures... Too many head-to-toe repaints of old figures as new characters like Double Blast, Wet-Down, Whiteout, etc. If Hasbro would've made BETTER new heads and mixed up the body parts more, the line would have felt stronger than it was. The new heads it did make, like Crossfire and Swideswipe, were squished-faced. Horrible packaging, too. Last edited by Clockwise; 10-21-2021 at 07:44 PM.. Reason: spelling |

The only thing that really stands out in my mind is the Firefly & Undertow 2 pack. I re-bought it a few years ago when I got back into collecting. It's just a great pack. I remember the TRU Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow and Lady Jaye 3 pack, and thinking, "This would have been perfect with Jinx instead!". The black, white and red colors alone would have been fantastic.
It was a good way to get something close to your childhood figures, since most of our idiot parents had given them away, and even by the mid-90's, carded figures from the 80's were already expensive at comic and toy shops. The Valor vs Venom multi-packs also helped, nostalgia-wise. Then the 25th and Retro lines really made some dreams come true lol... |

I love that run, fond memories of buying them all in one fell swoop at TRU.

some of the G.I. Joe figures that were released in 1997 which were mostly Destro, Baronness, Snake Eyes, Iceberg,SNow job, Storm Shadow which was basically in his old outfit covered with Dalmation spots but the figure looked crappy in that way.
1997 Destro was neat for those who never had the original Destro, but at at the same time the 1997 Destro just looked a bit odd with the huge collar and the all red and black paint job. The only 1997 G.I Joe figures that looked decent were Duke and Gung Ho which Gung Ho was packaged with some vehicle I think |

Torpedo looks good in all black, and Snake Eyes with the gray belts and trim was a nice upgrade. (It's kind of hard to screw up Snake Eyes, though.) Probably the best of the '97 figures was Stalker with the more detailed cammo pattern. |

I remember getting off work in Pasadena Texas around 2000 or so, going over to Pasadena Town Square Mall's KB and getting these ARAH 2 packs. The good old days of Toyfare Magazine and being inundated in Star Wars POTF and POTJ figures everywhere!
