Did anyone have this back in the day? How much play value did it have? I never saw this and didn't know it existed until many years later.

First time I've seen it. Odd that it's Firefly's gear but has a big Joe logo on it.

It was a licensed item, so the big GI Joe logo comes with the territory. I love these sorts of licensed toys, and it's especially cool they put the effort into making this one look like an actual thing instead of just a generic toy tool box. Which is unfortunately what this really is. It's just a fancy case for the standard sort of cheap plastic toy tools. Someone I grew up with had this (I can't remember if it was a cousin or a neighborhood kid), as well as a Doc "med kit" thing that was full of cheap medical toys. It looked cool, but there wasn't much play value outside of trying to use it for a backpack while pretending you were a Joe or Cobra. It was cheap though and didn't hold up well to that sort of play.
https://www.yojoe.com/feature/fcs/firefly/toolkit.shtml Something like this done now, as a high end collectible for adults, would be a definitive buy for me.

I have never seen this, but I grew up in a rural area and didn't get a lot of stuff outside the figures which were everywhere.
I get that it is basically a toolbox with toy tools, but then, what more does a skilled saboteur need? |

It kind of makes me want to build a backpack that looks like Firefly's for the tools that I use at work. I already have stickers of Cobra characters in my contractor's clipboard.

Never even knew this existed. I had the mess kit and field belt set which came with a plastic trench tool, knife, flashlight, compass, and canteen. I remember there was also a counterintelligence kit that had stuff for taking fingerprints, magnifying glass, decoder rings, et al, but I never owned it.
