All of the above, except for video stories. Most of my stuff on shelves are in diorama type settings with a whole hell of a lot going on, lol. I used to play with toys with my kid when she was younger, but now she's a teen, so not really. Whenever I go into my toy room, she's not far behind though....always wants to know what dad has going on. Whenever I'm planning my next big move, I seek her opinion on it (should I sell or keep this, move this here, what do you think about THIS? etc).

I'm pretty much Type 1 with a small smattering of 5. When I collected Transformers several years ago, I would set up dioramas for them to look like they were battling on a Cybertronian street. I've thought about that for the Joes, but it's been a very busy year.

My 1982-1994 vintage Joes are arranged chronologically in a cabinet. They don't get taken out much aside from the occasional photo, but I enjoy looking at them.
I don't have many vehicles or playsets, but the ones I do have ('83 HQ, Tactical Battle Platform, Mobile Command Center, Tomahawk, and few others) are on display in the room in mini-dioramas manned by o-ring repaint figures from the 2000-2005 years. My boys are both 7 and have inherited a number of Joe and Lanard Corps figures and vehicles that they actively play with. They enjoy creating their own characters by kitbashing figure parts together, and I help them with that. |

I think most of my enjoyment is restoration, collecting & displaying, and a little bit of customizing. My figures and vehicles generally are on display on shelving in my home office, although some of the larger items are stored (1983 HQ, 1985 TTBP, 1986 Terror Drome, etc). I'd be open to letting my nephews play with them, but I'd also be a nervous wreck the entire time over something losing an accessory and getting broken after I've spent all that effort tracking parts down to get figures and vehicles as complete as possible!
But for the most part, I just enjoy having the collection on display and looking at it. |
