I have a microphone for the Flagg that doesn't work. I've checked the wires and all have continuity. The PTT switch works. Not sure about testing the board. Looking for a method beyond touch every component and see if it has resistance or capacitance.

Out of curiosity have you already checked all the components?
I've never seen a Flagg board so I might not be a lot of help. :-/ |

I'm building a circuit diagram in Visio, using the knowledge I learned as a Sophmore in high school, 29 years ago. So, yeah, that's bound to look awesome. I've tested the various circuit routes on the board, and so far, so good. A wire came off, so maybe the soldering job wasn't the best. Speaker seems ok, based on the multimeter. Might play with it some more and then take it to a local CB repair shop to see if they can fix it. Can't be that hard. It's basically a printed board with a switch, microphone, resistors, capacitors, and transistors.

I imagine you have a solder joint issue or one of the components has come off/wiggled loose. Projects like this are why I miss Radio Shack. :(
Local CB guys should be able to help. Those guys usually have really strong circuit skills. |

I've felt all the components and nothing feels loose. I'm hoping that none of them have failed. Nothing looks burned or bad - no oil on the capacitors. Maybe the wire connections weren't solid enough. I figure the BD guy would be as good choice. They are always unsoldering things for tune ups.

Guy at the CB shop took a look at it for me. He worked on it for about 45 minutes and determined that two wires inside the cable were broken. I must have been lucky when I got continuity through it last night. He patched in a CB handmic cable to test the board and speaker - both worked! I ordered a similar toy off Amazon and will pull the cable from it.

Awesome. Glad to hear the repair has gone well.
I'm mostly just impressed you found a CB shop in this day and age. |

Testing a circuit board can indeed be a bit tricky, but there are methods beyond manually checking each component. One approach is to use a multimeter to measure voltage and continuity at different points on the board. This systematic method can help you pinpoint areas where there might be issues.

They're even putting "bot" in their names, now.
