He was freaking badass in the AF Monthly/GI Joe European Missions issue he was in.
I used him as a special operative in my Combined Universe fan-fic which merges Action Force Pallitoy, Marvel UK Action Force/Joe, US Marvel Joe comics and my own spins on the South American exclusives and Action Man into one universe. Lt. Paul Latimer and Sgt. Virginia Carmody serve as public relations for the brass when dealing with Washington and oversight committees.
They also work as recruiting officers among the special forces groups. |

The character's prototype name was Hard Corps, which I think I like better, but because shiny was a factor, Hasbro designers thought that they needed a more flashy name, so they went with Super Trooper.
He reminds me of a combat oriented spin on Captain America, but in an awesome way, rather than just the rip-off of that character which G.I. Joe later did with their Sgt. Savage character. Super Trooper is a perfect example of how to handle a brand exclusive correctly for the G.I. Joe line. (He wasn't some unobtainable Target store Cobra Island exclusive figure which could only be purchased from a Target employee online at four or five times the retail price.) He only required four proofs of purchase and a dollar to cover shipping, so he actually enticed kids to try to collect the brand, instead of the opposite which is true today because of impossible to afford secondary market pricing. The action figure was also exceptionally well advertised with a live action television commercial, and an Operation: 'Single-Handed' two page comic book story. As already mentioned, the character was treated well in the comic books published in the UK, and writer Larry Hama did such an excellent job with his dossier, that a massive block of the text was included during the editing process for the file card. Unlike the other G.I. Joe team members who originated from wealthy/affluent families and later graduated from the US Military Academy, Super Trooper made it to West Point the hardest way possible, and all via his own achievements (a very positive message for young children to read, instead of todays pictograph/emoji on the packaging which teaches nothing of value). Quote:
Hasbro used to recognize significant employee achievement by honoring them with their name or likeness on a G.I. Joe action figure. Super Trooper did so with employee Paul Latimer, (instead of Larry Hama's suggested fictional name of Virgil M. Carmody), who was with Hasbro from September 1985 – February 1989 in Brand Management roles, much like Mark Weber was during some recent years if you remember him. He was bouncing back and forth between Hasbro's UK and USA offices, so it explains why that character received the attention which he did in the comic books printed in the UK during that time period. You skillfully preserved that name through the creation of your character, Virginia Carmody. Well done!
