Hi all
Forgive me if this topic has already been brought up for discussion. I think most are aware of the recently released SW Retro vintage line and there appears to be significant interest in it. The main argument against it comes from collectors who fear it will take hasbro's focus away from the modern vintage line (TVC) . I personally love the retro line and think it can coexist with TVC. I was thinking that hasbro could do the same with GI Joe, and reissue vintage o-ring joes on retro cardbacks as well as re-release some vehicles using retro style packaging. How many of you would be interested in such a line? Would you be worried that support for a retro line could interfere with a return of ME figures? |

I like the retro line, so far I've only found Tarkin. But I would love for a GIJoe retro line to come out. I would buy everything they make for it.

if they did a retro line for Gijoe I would probably buy every figure made.. I love o-ring figures I never liked the new modern stuff never got into it. I grew up with o-ring figures and stopped buying Gijoe once they stopped making them. I would probably army build a lot of the cobra figures to lol.

Part of the appeal of the ME line back in '07 was the vintage card art. Many collectors like myself wanted it to be on vehicle packaging as well. Still more wanted a coffee table book of art or something. Hell yes, I'd be down for vintage style O-ring figures on old card art.

I would love it. They would have to modified them though, there is no way Hasbro would ever go back to o rings, t hooks and metal rivets.

Like many of you, I would buy the hell out of a Joe Retro line. I wonder if such an idea is on their radar. I know we've had discussions on the board about the current lack of support for a Joe toyline due to our fanbase being relatively small, especially when compared to the overall Star Wars fanbase. However, I have to think that the customer base for the SW Retro line is comparable in size to and shares significant overlap with a potential customer base for a Joe retro line. The SW Retro line is specifically drawing upon the nostalgic factor with those adult fans who grew up collecting those figures. I suspect that young(er) SW fans of today would have no interest in the Retro line. So, if Hasbro is willing to invest money and resources into a SW line that appears to be targeting a somewhat limited marketing demographic, might there not be a financial justification for creating a Retro line for us Joe fans? |

I could care less if they just revisited the same core characters in the same molds. No thanks, I already have them. However, if they did new characters in that old style, I wouldn’t mind. If they did an O-ring Pythona, Matt Trakker, Shadow Tracker, Shooter, Stiletto, Freestyle, Ashiko, Hollow Point, I’d be all over it.

Absolutely yes. Maybe even more similar to Sunbow cartoons.

Why? After having the details in the poc and renegades line that we had why would you pay 10+ for a lesser line? Nostalgia? Im not 10 anymore so rather have the modern style figures.

I would, though that would depend on the price point. I would also worry about whether such a move would jeopardize the future of the modern-era style; I doubt Hasbro would find it worthwhile to support modern and pre-modern figures at the same time, but considering Hasbro doesn't see the brand as worthwhile at all right now, anything would be an improvement.
