Not the missile box, but the arm on which the box is clipped. As you can see, the one of the right has the vertical tab that holds the box in place, but the one of the left does not. As a result the box will not stay up.
I can't tell if the missile launcher arm is removable. I see it for sale in several ebay listings, so I guess it's removable, but how? Thanks. |

I tried and was unsuccessful. I didn’t want to break it so I left it in and customized around it. Good luck.

You'll want to separate the top and bottom of the Whale so you have room to both squeeze the tabs together and push it through. You'll need to use some force, they're really in there. edited: Just thought about it, and since it sounds like you're replacing it, you could also just open the whale and cut the bottom of the tabs off of the bad one. I was selling mine, so getting them out intact was necessary.

Yes, in fact just did so myself last year. It's a pain in the ass, because the tabs are a very tight fit where they flare out.

BTW, you can also add a little clear nail polish to the inside of the missile box hooks so they can get some of that tension back rather than just flopping down. |

I bought an otherwise perfect whale because the guy said he could find nothing broken. I believe that it was an oversight. It would be easy to miss unless you were looking in the right spot, and the rest of the toy is amazing.
For what I paid, there shouldn't be anything broken, but otherwise it's really nice, no scratches, looks barely touched. |

I'm not clear on whether you still own it and it's packed away, or you've let it go.
Question: could I do this to fix mine? Snap off the arm. Drill the shaft stuck in the hole until the shaft is pulverized. Put in a replacement part. It would look new. |

Yes, but you'll want to be gentle, as the plastic is brittle. Like I said above, separate the top and bottom and cut the end of the broken arm off from the inside, from there, it should be a cakewalk. Definitely don't try and just snap the arm off from the outside, doing that will probably result in stress marks to the mounting hole at best, and at worst, you run the risk of cracking the whole shell.

I removed the broken arms from my whale by simply heating up the remainder portion of the arm itself with a hair dryer set to warm. I just slightly pulled on it with a pair of needle-nose pliers. It came right out with ease. Otherwise You need to be very careful when splitting the two portions of the whale apart. A buddy of mine just broke the tabs on the deck a night Force whale that I traded him when he attempted to split it to do his restoration. I own two complete v1 KW and one near complete Night Striker and I am pretty sure I had to replace two or three of the missile box arms and I have not had an issue.

There is no way I am taking the Whale apart. Doing so would almost certainly break a tab somewhere, and I don't see how taking it apart would help me anyway.
I won't do anything until I can find a replacement part. Then I'll try the heating technique. If that doesn't work, I might trying drilling. |
