This question is prompted by a recent post on Forgotten Figures. How should Super Sonic Fighters Zap wear his helmet?
In all the years I've owned this figure, I always put his helmet on with the lower end in the back, so that the entire back of his head is covered and his eyes are exposed. The shape of the helmet seems to fit naturally this way and I never gave it a moment's thought. However, that ridge thing sticking out of it sure looks like it was intended to go in front. The card art shows him with the ridge forward and a visor over his eyes, which suggests that I've always put the helmet on backwards, and the lower end is supposed to cover his eyes like a visor. I notice now that sites like YoJoe and 3DJoes also photograph him this way. And yet, the other side of the helmet looks very wrong only covering half of the back of his head, and the visor part doesn't fit well over his nose. To me, the shape of the helmet feels like it's backwards this way. Similar to my issues with Blowtorch's backpack, I'm left reconsidering if the way I've used these toys all along has been wrong. Also, yes, he's probably holding the bazooka wrong in these photos. I'm not sure if there even is a good way to hold that bazooka.

Great question! I never owned him so I didn't even know.

There really just does not seem to be a good way to hold this stupid bazooka. Is that curved part sticking out above the handle supposed to be a shoulder brace, a rangefinder for him to look into, or something else entirely? Whichever way I try it, nothing looks right or balances well.
With the ridge and "visor" part in front, the helmet keeps popping off his head, which has just about convinced me that I was right the first time and it's supposed to go the other way. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

Also, once I took his helmet completely off, I was struck by this:

Maybe I'm thinking about this bazooka all wrong and it's supposed to go under-handed like HEAT Viper's? That might work with the curved part being a brace for his abdomen.
Imagine a soldier trying to hold onto a heavy piece of artillery with a grip like this, though. Seems like a terrible design. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

Was he? The short end really looks like it should be the back of the bazooka where you load the shells, and the long end should be the barrels. But I could be completely wrong. Who knows what they were thinking with this one.

Most real world bazookas have the short end in front, long end in back

Yeah, I get that. It certainly balances on the shoulder much better that way. But the barrels themselves look like they're capped off on the short end, like that's the part you close after you load the shell.
