Hello, all. I'm new to the site (not to collecting), so I thought I'd jump right in and ask what your first figure was. Mine was in 1982. I was at Sears in the toy section and waitaminute ... what was this new action figure? An Army guy? With an M16? I had to have Grunt! And that started my lifelong obsession with the Joes. Grunt even inspired me to later join the Army as, you guessed it, infantry. So, what was your first?

First Joe was an Orange suited Adventure Team 12" figure. Don't really remember where or when. First ARAH was the VAMP, from my father who came to visit, Christmas 1982. Pissed off my mom as she hated war toys. lol First purchase of my own was straight-arm Snake Eyes, probably from either TRU or Woolworths with Christmas money some time between that Christmas and New Year's Day. She let me keep him, but took away the UZI.

I got SE, Short Fuze and Stalker at once, visiting my grandma. I was steadily into Joe through the 82 and 83 lines but 84 was when I fell in love. Storm Shadow, Firefly and Baroness dropped and it was over.
After that, I eschewed Star Wars, D&D, Transformers and MOTU for the most part. All my allowance and birthday / Christmas wishes went to Joe through 86. Last edited by Cobra Agent 66; 04-06-2024 at 11:33 PM.. Reason: edit |

I am pretty sure it was Dr. Mindbender, though I don't remember exactly what year I got him--probably '87.

It's tough to be asking this question to old people who were little kids in the early 1980s. I barely remember what my first GI Joe figure was exactly but I still remember when I was 2 of course back in 1982 I know Battle armor He Man was my first action figure.
G.I. Joe it was probably Rock and Roll and one of those play and wear G.I. Joe helmets and walkie talkies to make it look like you were dressing up as Rock and Roll or whatever. Tough question to be asking those where too young back in 1982 to even remember what our first action figure/figures were back then |

My brother got the '83 Breaker and RAM for Christmas in 1983. It wasn't until almost 2 years later when I bought my first Joe: 1985 Snake-Eyes with Timber in November of 1985.
For Christmas that year, my brother and I got Spirit, Baroness, and Buzzer at home. Then, we went to Grandma's house and got a huge surprise: Blowtorch, Rip-Cord, Recondo, Torpedo, Scrap-Iron, Footloose, Bazooka, Airtight, and Tele-Viper, along with the Cobra Rifle Range, the Ammo Dump, the Forward Observer Unit, and the Missile Defense Unit. That was a GREAT DAY!!! We went from having a couple Joes to having 12 figures and 4 playsets! |
