Anyone out there have any tips or experience ironing out Air Commando gliders? I have one that seems pretty air-worthy but it has a little bit of flattening to the back tubular part, and some frills towards the back are curled up (it's the Spirit American flag one).
I figure if they got a little bent outta shape in poor storage, they should be able to bounce back some how. Was thinking about flattening out the curled part with weight, and maybe put something through the back tubular part for a while, like an empty aluminum can or something. |

As with any plastic, a bit of heat is going to be your friend. With the flat bits, I'd recommend soaking in hot water and then immediately weighting it down. With the curved tube bit, find something that approximately fits the size and curvature you're going for, put it through the space, and then submerge it in hot water. Just remember to be conservative- start with a lower heat and work your way up until you find the right temperature.
Conversely, most of the AC gliders aren't that expensive to replace- which are you working on?

Great advice, I'm gonna try that out when I have the chance and hopefully will have some positive results. I'm surprised to hear you say the AC gliders are cheap..this one I got was on the cheap side but usually the nicer ones w/ pilots are upwards of 50 bucks. Am I just looking in the wrong place? |

120!!!! That's complete, right? I snagged a Skymate with visor and a cracked right elbow for a little under $40..it's no joke. I imagine Air Devil complete and mint probably fetches a huge price, too.
I have never seen the glider part solo, on the aftermarket. I never even thought about trying to piece one together like that, in fear of breaking something and ruining its ability to fly..though I guess you're right, it seems like the frame just slips out of the glider part. I always thought it was sealed or glued in place. |
