As I recall, the Unifighters were a big flop and quickly wound up being clearanced at KB Toy Liquidators stores.

The 1997 Early Bird Certificate Set. Four "vendor supplied prototypes" sold (via a certificate that effectively mail-ordered them for delivery later) at the 1997 G.I. Joe convention in anticipation of the return of 3.75" Joes later that year.
To be frank, selling test-shot prototypes as a convention exclusive was kind of a lame promotion. It certainly didn't help that the figures these were prototypes for turned out to be pretty lame as well. But I was still a completist at the time, so I have them. Allegedly, these were limited to 1,000 pieces. Last edited by Josh Z; 01-03-2021 at 12:25 AM.. |

Here's a partial prototype for the planned but unreleased 1995 Star Brigade Falcon figure. Hasbro only sculpted select body parts, as the rest of the figure would have been repurposed from other existing molds.
Copies of the prototype were sold by Whiz Bang Collectibles in 1999, packaged with a certificate of authenticity. Mine has never been opened. Some intrepid fan or fans cast all of the parts and sold reproductions so that other fans could assemble and paint the figure. I have those parts, but never did anything with them. (You can see one person's full assembly here.) The head and torso to the left of this photo are for the unlreleased Battle Corps Rangers Shipwreck. Last edited by Josh Z; 01-03-2021 at 01:20 AM.. |

I'm not even sure how I wound up with this one, as I had stopped collecting around this time, but this is a prototype for an unreleased 2005 version of Cobra Commander.
Note that the belt on my copy is different than the one shown on YoJoe, and the head is a lighter blue that matches the body. This mold eventually did get used with a black color scheme in 2008. I'm not a fan of either this figure or this style of body construction. |

Last, and certainly least, to finish off my collection of prototypes are a group of test-shots from 2001 and 2002. Meh.

I've repurposed an old CD rack to be an action figure shelf. It looks pretty decent in this usage, I think.
Who even has CDs anymore, right? |

Here's my collection of 1995-2003 Funskool Joes from India. (Older foreign figures are mixed with their domestic brethren in my main G.I. Joe display cabinet, which is organized from 1982-1994.)
It amazes me how much these sell for on eBay right now, considering that their main appeal at the time was how cheap they were to import. I only bought foreign figures that were substantively different than the domestic versions, either in body parts or in paint. Figures that looked basically the same as the domestic copies held no interest to me. The really goofy ones like Tripwire and Windmill are some of my favorites. Any of these stand out as desirable to you guys? Last edited by Josh Z; 01-03-2021 at 05:38 PM.. |

Any of these stand out as desirable to you guys? I don't think I've seen the Desert Scorpion before. He looks cool! I am fan of Tunnel Rat too! So I found out about Funskool G.I. Joes from SmallJoes.com probably in the late 1990's / early 2000's. That's how I got a few figures and my very first Skystriker! Originally they were produced for the Indian market. I've seen a lot of Funskool with Russian cards on eBay lately. Q1. Does Funskool (or any other international companies) still produce G.I. Joe items or does everything come from Hasbro now? I've always appreciated foreign variants. Thanks for sharing! |

Very cool funskool collection - I like CG Immortal, Hydro-Viper, Toxo-Viper and the Night-Vipers. Not sure why I have been so reluctant on collecting Funskool figs.
