Things got a lot more permissive in the '80s and '90s, but I don't recall seeing Terminator or Aliens toys at the time those movies were released. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I thought the first toys based on either of those movies came out years later and were aimed more at adult collectors. Terminator 2, however, definitely had a day-and-date toy line. I think the first RoboCop toys coincided with and were based on the cartoon, which was another weird situation like Rambo of trying to soften up an adult franchise to make it kid-friendly. |

Great stuff! Always cool to see what other collectors have. I will say that Manimals was where I draw the line with Joes. I had no issue with the Star Brigade figures but the aliens to me are a no go. The cancelled 95 line would of had more of that type of figure from what I have read but at least balanced it out with the Battle Rangers.

I remember when I first heard that Larry Hama played a role in MASH. Then I was so excited when I finally saw the episode!

Looks like I've found a 1995 Ninja Commandos Budo hiding in my closet. Those old rumors were true, Hasbro did produce some of these guys after all!
Nah, of course it's a Mortal Kombat Shang Tsung painted into the original intended colors. I'm sure quite a lot of G.I. Joe collectors made this particular custom back in the day. This was my attempt at it. Given that I'm not particularly skilled at customizing work, I think he turned out OK. The blue is probably the wrong shade. The prototype photos appear to be more of a turquoise. (Photo from YoJoe.) Ironically, the Mortal Kombat figure's brown and red work better for Budo anyway. This reminds me of a story. Back in late 1994, my wife was friends with a woman who worked at the PR firm handling Hasbro's G.I. Joe campaign. She told me that they were scheduled to receive the 1995 action figure assortment to be photographed for print publications. Ninja Commandos, Battle Corps Rangers, and Star Brigade were all on the list.
A couple weeks later, news broke that Hasbro had canceled the line and all production was halted. Those figures, if they were ever manufactured, never shipped to her firm. |

Perhaps someone here can tell me what this figure is? Honestly, I don't remember a thing about where I got her.
I mean, obviously this is supposed to be an Agent Scarlett circa 2002. However, I can't find any reference to this color scheme on YoJoe. She's still sealed in the original baggie and I've never opened it. To my knowledge, it's not a custom. A collector friend suggests that it may be a prototype, but I frankly have a hard time believing that I went out of my way to buy a prototype for such an ugly figure that I hate. YoJoe lists two prototypes for this build of Agent Scarlett, neither with these colors: https://www.yojoe.com/preprod/02/scarlett2.shtml https://www.yojoe.com/preprod/02/scarlett.shtml Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

Interesting! Never heard of the Bronze Bombes or Olmec Toys.
Found a recent interview with Olmec's founder, as well as a nice overview on a toy blog. Was wondering what the deal was on how these got made and the blog mentions that Olmec bought the molds from Hasbro. So, I gather that would be the same thing with Mattel and the Sun-Man and the Sun People line. |
