In which direction do most people here orient Blowtorch's backpack? The arch support on the pack suggests that the nozzle portion should be at the top, but that makes connecting the flamethrower hose to it effectively impossible.
If you turn it upside down, the hose connects easily, but the arch support is in the wrong place and it looks weird for half the backpack to hang down over the figure's butt. The card art supports the nozzle-down orientation, and the "geared up" photos on both YoJoe and 3DJoes pose him that way, but that has always looked wrong to me. Is this just a design error in the backpack? Zandar's arrow quiver also seems to have the wrong arch support orientation. Also, does anyone happen to have a spare Blowtorch facemask you might trade for another needed accessory? I painted the visor portion of mine silver when I was a kid and have come to regret that over the years. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

For that matter, why is the pistol on his leg holstered backwards? Are we to take it that he's left handed and reaches for it by crossing his arm across his body every time?
This guy's just all mixed-up. |

Nozzle down. Without a doubt. Since flamethrowers are illegal for modern warfare, you'd have to google "Vietnam Flamethrower" and you'll see that the nozzles are always down. That's how the jellied gasoline flow into your flamethrower.
I actually think you did a pretty good job on that silver visor. |

I went through a phase when I was young in which I thought it was a great idea to paint the details on some of my figures. Some turned out OK, like the goggles on Eco Warrior Flint's helmet: But others were pretty crappy, like Deep Six V2's helmet: Or the sloppy mess I made of both Deep Six V4 and Hawk V5 (or "General Hawk V3," however you want to call him). Looks like Stalker V4 got some touch up on his face mask there as well. I wish I'd just left all this stuff alone. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

I did that as a kid. Hasbro even suggested people to add their own details. They have instructions on the mail away Duke to use a Sharpie and add details like painting the grenade.
I always put the nozzle down cause that's how it was in the cartoon and card art. As for the backwards pistol in the holster, I incorporated that into my modern Blowtorch custom actually. It's backwards so I guess he can cross draw with his left hand while still holding his flamethrower. It makes absolutely no sense to do that of course. You might as well put the pistol on your left leg, but It is what it is and I just decided to copy the vintage design.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavalry_draw The name and technique come from the gunleather holsters used by the cavalry of both the United States Army and the Confederate States Army, during the Civil War. The pistol was in a covered holster carried high on the cavalryman's right side, but was placed butt-forward for crossdrawing by the left hand. The pistol was considered by the Army to be a secondary weapon, with the right hand used for the saber. Placement on the right permitted an alternate method to be used, allowing the right hand to draw the pistol if the sword were lost in battle. In practice, however, the "alternate method" became the standard, with the sword being left in its sheath until the pistol and its spare loaded cylinders had been expended. Later, it was found that the reversed holster can be more comfortable, especially when worn while sitting down, than the normal type holster. In addition, cavalry draw can be performed while sitting, as well as retaining the original off-hand cross draw capability. For these reasons, the FBI used the cavalry draw when they were equipped with short .38 Special revolvers. Huh. Learned something new today. |

Cool. It totally makes sense now too...especially being able to draw while sitting down.

Thanks. I was a bit more aggressive with Blast-Off here. I hated his bright orange, solid rubber helmet so much that I painted the whole thing black and cut out the visor section so you can see his face through it, like his file card photo.

Man, we totally think alike. I did the same thing with my Blast Off as well. I used rite-dye though instead of paint. I also did it with battle corps Flint so he'd have a black beret like the card art.
