I just found out something that could be very very useful to everyone! How many times do you fear when raising and lowering the very fragile landing gears on your vintage 1984 Cobra Rattler jet that they'll just snap in half? Well sleep easier, Rattler owners, for I believe I have found a fix for this. All it takes is a toothpick and some soap. Just take some soap (dishwashing soap recommended) and rub it all around the ends of the landing gears that fit up inside the Rattler's fuselage, this in effect "lubricates" the landing gears, making it much easier to lower and raise the gears without the fears of them snapping in half (especially if the landing gears already have stress marks at first). I've tested this like 10 consecutive times on my Rattler (lightly lubricating the gears and raising them and lowering them) and they work very easily.

oh man i already do that. i got a box of like 150, anwhen i dont feel like lookin cool i take it out my mouth an stick it between my hat an head for later.. been doin that for shit ever.. if no tooth picks are handy i use match sticks or straws, but straws tend to fill wit' spit an can get messy, like turn ya head an spit flies in someones eye.

the thing with using dish soap is that it will eventually evaporate and may not be that effective for too long. I suggest an actually plastic safe lubricant like what the train model builders use. I don't know the exact name of it but I think those will lubricate it a lot longer.

Actually, the toothpick is used to dip into the dishwashing soap (put the soap in a small container) to put it onto the landing gears, so they won't be so stiff on the Rattler when you lower them and raise them, resulting in broken landing gears. That is the purpose in lubricating the gears, to prevent them from snapping, so you can lower and raise them without sweating bullets that they'll break.

I've just always taken the landing gears off and sanded them down a little so they fit better

I use white lithium grease, it works like a charm just apply to the nubs on the body. I love cinnamon flavor toothpicks chick'n-heads dig them! If you have any stress cracks or discoloring in your plastic parts just use a heatgun or a lighter to recolor the plastic it only takes a second practice on something because if you apply the heat too long it deforms the plastic, but it works perfectly!
