stores like Ben Franklin which is now called B&F, along with Coast to Coast. Those small town stores were loaded with toys from G.I. Joe to the big rubber LJN WWF figures along with Masters of the Universe, Manglors and Star Wars.

Man, I think about that almost daily. We had a local variety store/ pharmacy that was absolutely loaded with Joes. One of my fondest memories is of a hot June day, walking the two blocks with my little bro, and getting push ups and a Joe each. I got Big Ben, and he grabbed a Saw Viper. We really did have it pretty good in our day, didn't we?

yeah us older folk were lucky to have stores like that back then. But then our parents were pretty stingy at times. action figures werent expensive back then only at 2 bucks. There were times back then that I wish my parents would have splurged a little bit more by getting me a couple of good G.I. Joe figures instead of getting me Star Wars or He Man all the time once in awhile.

Ben Franklin was a hidden gem for my brother and I. We walked into one and could not believe there was a Zartan and a Thunder Machine. Keep in mind this was long since those were released.

yeah the Masters of the Universe Slime Pit back then was a little spendy but it was cheap unlike the modern toys you see in stores today.
Even the Ghostbusters toys back then it was frustrating lol. I wanted my parents to get me the normal ghostbusters figures instead of them wasting money on those big ghosts that act like the HE-Man Slime Pit. |

the B&F store today which was known back then as the Ben Franklin store, back then when Return of the Jedi was in theaters even the drive in theater, the Ben Franklin store was always full of action figures. One aisle was full of Star Wars figures along with G.I. Joe and Dukes of Hazzard while the other aisle was full of He-Man, Manglors, Barbie for the girls along with silly putty and the grey plastic knight swords and Marvel Secret Wars.
good times back then. |

The 80's and 90's was the golden age of the toys.

Especially the 80's. The 90's were the beginning of the end, though.

I'd say those were the best days of affordable toys and large toylines, but I'd say for quality of toys nowadays can't be beat. The quality of Black Series and Legends for the price is fantastic. If they were from a foreign company instead of from Hasbro, people would be willing to pay $60 for them and say it's a good deal.
