Question: For those of you who have no interest in a reissue of Hasbro's original (and best) 3 3/4" G.I. Joe figures that children of the '70s and '80s grew up with, why are you even commenting on this thread? Just to rain on everyone else's parade? There's no need for the negativity and condescension. And there's especially no call for some 19-year-old smart-alecky kid's obnoxious ageism. "That'd be fine for elderly people . . ." *Elderly* people??? You've got to be kidding me. Talk about audacity. And this coming from someone who wasn't born until like a decade *after* the original ARAH G.I. Joe toy line ended. Seriously?
As for the rest of you who actually experienced the awesomeness of 1980s G.I. Joe live and in color, it is incomprehensible to me that you would NOT want to see the incomparable toys of your childhood re-released exactly as you remember them. WHY??? It makes no sense whatsoever, especially when nostalgia is running wild. I mean, as adults, what possible sentimental value could you get from any modern toys? What significant memories are you making with them? In other words, how could these dramatically different modernized G.I. Joe (or Transformers or He-Man, etc.) products *mean* anything special to you, especially when they look and feel completely different from the toys you played with as kids? I just don't get it. Furthermore, for those of you who keep saying, "Just go buy the vintage G.I. Joe toys," how much money do you people have anyway? Do you make a six- or seven-figure salary? Unless you're living under a rock, prices for vintage toy lines, especially 1980s G.I. Joe, are INSANE now, and they just keep skyrocketing. MOC and MIB items are absolutely exorbitant in most cases, and even loose toys are outrageously overpriced. Believe me, if the original factory-sealed toys were still reasonably priced, I wouldn't be posting here! I'd much rather own the Real McCoys over anything else, obviously! But since the originals are *not* affordable, getting Hasbro to replicate and reissue them as faithfully as possible would be the only way us poor paupers could afford to build/re-build a nice collection. Kapeesh? fo·rum /ˈfôrəm/ noun 1. a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. "it will be a forum for consumers to exchange their views on medical research" Similar: meeting assembly gathering conference seminar

Wouldn't it be very difficult and costly to recreate the vintage O Ring moulds? I heard that most of the originals were destroyed through overproduction, lost, stolen or melted down to pour into new moulds. I'm certain Hasbro's got some late moulds stashed away somewhere (Bullhorn, Headhunter, Night Force Beachhead, Talking Cobra Commander, etc) but they're no Straight Arm Snake Eyes or OG Masked Cobra Commander.
Vintage O Ring reissues would be great but they're more than likely too costly to reproduce. That and the O Ring construction would be a bit of a bastard to work with as well.

The dilemma is that people want something new as well as something old. While a retro collection of O-ring type figures with improvements, such as softer hands, stronger waist pieces, swivel arms and ball-joint necks would get my attention, personally I'd prefer to see a collector-focused line of classic-looking modern-era Joes with high-quality sculpting (see Gung-Ho's last figure) on vintage cards. I'd buy the hell out of that.

Part of the appeal of the ME line back in '07 was the vintage card art. Many collectors like myself wanted it to be on vehicle packaging as well. Still more wanted a coffee table book of art or something. Hell yes, I'd be down for vintage style O-ring figures on old card art.

This thread was nine months old and someone resurrected it to complain that not everyone is eager to buy O-ring figures again? A lot has happened in nine months that makes this discussion seem a bit out of place (Classified, Retro).
So odd.

There's stuff you guys with this argument never bother to think about or acknowledge. Like, did you know that o-ring type figures are under constant tension thanks to that o-ring which means they're looked at as "action feature" or "spring-loaded" toys and come under additional scrutiny and regulation? Even if Hasbro did still have the original tooling for the ARAH o-ring Joes, it would all have to be re-certified for today's safety standards, which means they'd probably have to re-engineer them. That's costly. Or, you know, they can just use existing tooling they know already meet those standards and has long since been paid for. There are reasons Hasbro moved on from o-ring in the first place, and safety regs were one of them.

You can't really compare one dude making 'adult collectable' Python Patrol reproductions out of his garage to a multi-million dollar company that's beholden to certain standards, I don't think...
